“Antidote” by pop band Capital Kings and contemporary artist Sam Rivera is a vulnerable song. It’s about feeling the weight of your emotions, the depth of your need for God, and crying out to God from that safe place. Did you know you could bring your emotions to God and ask Him for help? Sometimes, we feel it’s wrong to be that honest with God, but if you look at the Bible, you’ll see the opposite is true.
Look at the book of Psalms. You’ll see King David tell God about how he’s overwhelmed with grief, depression, anxiety, and anger at the actions of his enemies. You’ll also see how frustrated he is with God for not intervening in his situation faster and longing because he can’t feel God’s presence like he used to. You’ll eavesdrop on the prayers of David, where he calls out to God for help, direction, and comfort.
Here are my questions for you. What are you going through right now? What are you feeling? Bring these answers honestly to God in prayer. You don’t have to carry it alone, and God doesn’t want you to. He wants to hear your heart and help with what you need. Follow the example set by Capital Kings and Sam Rivera in “Antidote” and run to God today.
Psalm 25:4-6 (NLT): "Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long, I put my hope in you. Remember, O Lord, your compassion and unfailing love, which you have shown from long ages past."
Lyrics
Feels like I’m drownin’ in the ocean
Feels like it’s hard to recognize (Recognize)
Myself behind all these emotions
Open my eyes
Show me a light
Pulled by the tide
Taking me further
Can You hear my cry?
Oh, send me a sign to follow
Can’t wait until tomorrow
Right now, right now
Father of my soul
Need You now, I pray You’ll keep me close
You’re the only One that feels like home
Send me a sign to follow
Can’t wait until tomorrow, oh
Be my antidote, be my antidote
