Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
Eyes on the one from nazareth by Eshon Burgundy One of the CHH veterans always spoke about in conversations about the best lyricists in this space, Eshon Burgundy finally released to DSPs his most recent project. Previously, the album was available exclusively on even.biz and Bandcamp as of Thursday, April 18. The project includes seven tracks with my favoites being "Sabbath mourning," "Silence of the lambs," and "I shall wear a crown."
Along the side of such artists as Bizzle, Datin, Zauntee, Trip Lee, KB, Hulvey, 5ive, and Knine; Burgundy remains unshamed with the spiritual-led content. Scriptural references, the names of our Lord, and biblical principles are smothered throughout. The included production goes crazy stamped with a certain uniqueness and memorable soundscape. The artistic value from start to finish is top-notch. Stream Eyes on the one from nazareth on Spotify here.
Ty Brasel - "Who I Am" Independent rapper Ty Brasel releases his third single in 2024. As Christians, we discover our identity in Christ Jesus. However, the journey to that discovery through our faith walk is filled with many valleys along with a few mountaintops. Our life experience mold and shape us, especially as Christ influences our moves and decisions. The overall vibe of the track is refreshing with the guitar and other live instrumentation. Honestly, this is one of Brasel's best from the past few years. Stream "Who I Am" on Spotify and Apple Music.
nobigdyl. - "loved."
The leader of the indie tribe. collective, nobigdyl. drops his fourth (and most impactful personally) single in 2024. Production was handled by BUNKERBOY and COOPTHETRUTH. The storyline behind the single relates to the moment we receive unexpected (and undeserved) grace along with unconditional love from God. In those seasons deep in the valley when we do not feel love, we do not expect grace, you're embraced with all-encompassing affection and divine tenderness from our Almighty Father in heaven. The single speaks to how being loved by a greater power changes you and all of those around you. The track expresses a more soul-driven version of dyl.'s skill set. It's a beautiful collision of worship, R&B, and hip-hop. Stream "loved." on Spotify and Apple Music.
Joshua Galla is an audiophile hyped about all forms of art in music, but his passion rests behind CHH and soulful vibes. He's a devout husband, father, and child of God. Concerts are his happy place.
