While suffering from anxiety, depression, and panic attacks, rising artist Mr. Weaverface felt God speaking to him through dreams and visions. He called on the name of God and began a journey toward freedom and sanctification. Now, his goal is to spread the message of freedom in Christ through his music.
Mr. Weaverface began playing music at an early age. Inspired by alternative rock bands, throughout college, he began sharing music. In his late-20s he fronted two rock bands and performed regionally. Not long after, he felt God calling him to become involved musically at his church.
Leading worship with his church's worship team for the past 12+ years, Mr. Weaverface is now releasing inspiring Christian rock music. As NewReleaseToday's June new artist watch, we spoke with the artist about his music.
Please introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Brendon Weaver. I go by the artist name, Mr. Weaverface. I'm new to the Christian rock scene--I've been doing this for about two or three years now. My musical influences are from 90s Alternative Rock and Grunge bands such as Stone Temple Pilots, The Smashing Pumpkins, Our Lady Peace, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, and U2.
You share about your struggles with a lot of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. Share about how you have seen healing in these areas.
I have been completely healed in all of these areas by the power of Jesus Christ. Now that's not to say that I still don't get attacked by the enemy to try and bring me back to those things, but after what I went through, God showed me His power, and now I have the confidence to at least endure and overcome. I talk about these struggles on social media and within the lyrics of my songs because I want people to be aware that Jesus can set people free who are suffering from mental health problems as he did with me.
How has music helped you be an overcomer in these areas of mental health, and where do you still struggle?
Music should be a part of everyone's life, either making it or listening to it, as long as it's not demonic or evil. King Saul asked David to play music to bring relief when he was tormented by an evil spirit (1 Samuel 16:14-23). I write about my personal experiences in my songs because there may be people out there who listen to music who are going through the same type of struggle.
I also present the Word through my lyrics because I believe those words have power, and if a person listening hears the truth of God's Word through the music, then that could help them with their struggles as well, or at least get them to a point to trust God to help them. Also, singing the truth in my lyrics is my way of fighting against the enemy.
In addition to rocking people's faces off, you also take care of their eyes as an eye doctor. Do those two worlds ever collide?
It's starting to. I had an enthusiastic patient come in for their eye exam, singing lyrics to my first release, "Jesus Is Alive," and it brought a smile to her face. I gave her some free merch for making my day.
Tell us about your new single, "Above All Names."
This song talks about my experience of being trapped in bondage and being set free by calling on the name of Jesus. I literally heard hundreds of voices in my head one night, and when I shouted "Jesus" in my mind, they all disappeared. It was like I was at a rock concert, standing in general admission with all these bodies pressed up against me, and then suddenly, everyone was gone, and I had such an open space to myself. It was a spiritually weird experience but amazing at the same time. As Jesus healed me, I really felt a burden lifted from my shoulders, as if I felt lighter and not weighed down anymore. A lot of people are living with a weight on their shoulders that they don't even know is there.
What's next for you musically?
I'm fortunate to have finally found the right members for my band, so we're preparing to start playing out at Christian music festivals and other events to get the Word out through the music this summer. I would like to perform for the Lord as much as I can so I'm hoping that He makes that happen and the music gets in front of the right people who need to hear it. We're also working on some new songs, and I'm hoping to get back into the studio to record more music. I love songwriting, and I do it as much as my free time allows.
How can we be praying for you?
I know it's all about God's will and timing, but I would like prayers for doors to be opened so that Mr. Weaverface can get into more Christian and secular music festivals and events. Our goal is to rock as hard as we can as we present the Gospel, to hopefully get people to realize that Jesus is the real deal so they can repent of sin and be healed. I really enjoy doing the eye doctor thing, but if I could transition over to rocking for the Lord full-time and make a living doing Christian rock that would be fantastic!
