Did you know that, as followers of Jesus, we're in a spiritual battle? These lyrics list different challenges we experience in life: fear, shame, lies, just to name a few. Sometimes those challenges are the stuff of life that we all face as we live in a broken world. But sometimes it's the work of the devil and his demons--our spiritual enemy, evil spirits who try to hinder us as we aim to follow God in this life. And most often it's a combination of both.
Whatever the source of a particular struggle in our lives, what I love about this song is that it shows that we're not helpless against spiritual battle and schemes from the powers of darkness in our lives. We can fight back through the name of Jesus and the power of His Holy Spirit. We have the spiritual weapon of the Word of God, the Bible. The truth in God's Word resets our minds and hearts when the devil or our feelings try to lie to us about God, ourselves, or the situations we're going through. We have the spiritual weapon of prayer, which helps us enlist God's help and His power into whatever need we bring to Him, and many others mentioned in Ephesians 6.
Let "Take It All Back" by Tauren Wells stir up some feistiness in your faith. Stand firm in the power of Jesus and the spiritual weapons He gives us to be victorious in life.
Ephesians 6:10-18 (NLT):"A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places..."
Lyrics
Fear's got me living with the lights out
Chained down like a prisoner in my own house
Shame cycles like a daily medication
I try, but I can't change my situation
'Cause the liar comes to rob my joy
Yeah, I'm bruised, but I'm not destroyed
I'm rising like an army, and you're gonna hear the sound
I'm calling the angels down
I'm storming the gates of hell
Tell the devil he don't own my soul
I'm taking back what the enemy stole
I'm raising the battle cry
I'm holding the banner high
With the power of the Holy Ghost
I'm taking back what the enemy stole, oh-oh-oh
