“Dash” by contemporary artists Crowder and TobyMac is about acknowledging how short life is and not wanting to waste life’s moments. The Bible and the song’s lyrics talk about how life is fleeting. We are here for what seems like a moment and then gone into eternity. Because of that, the Bible tells us to live with wisdom, which starts with knowing Jesus and honoring Him.
Matthew 7:24-27 tells us that when we build our lives on Jesus and follow Him according to His teachings in the Bible, our lives will be built on a firm foundation. Matthew 22:37-40's greatest commandments are to love God wholeheartedly and others well. There’s no better way to live a life than living for Jesus and helping other people get closer to Him. So, as you listen to “Dash,” ask yourself, “What am I living for?” And may your answer be “to know Jesus and make Him known, and to love others as He loves.
Psalm 90:10 (NLT): “Teach us to realize the brevity of life so that we may grow in wisdom.”
Lyrics
Sunday mornin’ Preacher said “Life’s a mist it’s just a breath” “We’re only here for a little while” He talked about his daddy’s grave It read 1910 to ’98 But the years between were just a little line Got me wondering what I’m chasing Don’t want another minute wasted There’s a day we’re born, day we pass In between there’s just a dash What on earth am I doing? What on earth am I doing? Yeah I got time, but time goes fast Yeah that line’s all I have What on earth am I doing? What on earth am I doing? I could take this life and live it well I could keep on living it for myself What’s He gonna say when He calls me up? (Yeah, what’s He gonna say?) Was I just words, or was I love? Did I love great or just good enough? I just hope He says well done (What’s He gonna say?) I keep on wondering what I’m chasing Don’t want another minute wasted
