Sarah Kroger, a gifted worship leader and songwriter, recently released her latest album, A New Reality, a heartfelt follow-up to her widely acclaimed album, Light. Known for her reflective and uplifting music, Sarah has steadily grown in popularity within the Christian music community. Her previous album featured the standout track “Belovedness,” which resonated deeply with listeners for its message of God’s unconditional love and acceptance. In A New Reality, Sarah continues to inspire, offering songs that invite listeners to find their identity and purpose in God.
As a father to three young women—ages 24, 20, and 18—this album feels especially relevant to me. It aligns with my mission to share the biblical truth behind Christian songs, helping women navigate a world filled with negative messages about identity and self-worth. Sarah’s album centers on committing our hearts to God, beautifully captured in her single, “Still Yours,” where she sweetly sings: “You're still good, and I'm still Yours/Yours and Yours forever/Loved, adored, and treasured.” I pray the words of this song over my daughters, Natalie, Cassandra, and Bethany.
I recently spoke with Sarah about her standout song, “Still Yours,” and the profound truths it communicates.
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
“Still Yours” speaks to the history of my relationship with God and falling back on that history. That’s the beautiful thing about relationships: having a history of experiences with each other that a foundation of love is built upon. I'm saying, “I’m still fighting to choose You because I believe it’s worth it. Our story isn’t done yet.”
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Psalm 139:14 (NIV): "I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
Psalm 139:17-18 (NKJV): "How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand. When I awake, I am still with You."
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT): "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago."
Jeremiah 29:11 (VOICE): "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Eternal, "plans for peace, not evil, to give you a future and hope--never forget that."
Romans 8:28 (VOICE): "We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan."
1 Samuel 16:7 (ESV): “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
1 Corinthians 13:12 (NKJV): "For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. I know partly, but then I shall know just as I am known."
1 John 4:18-19 (NKJV): "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love because He first loved us."
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV): "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."
What is the takeaway message?
I’m trying to reach the silent strugglers, the closet doubters, and anyone who has felt alone in their spiritual battles. I hope people feel encouraged to bring their imperfect, questioning, doubting selves to God. I want people to be reminded of the beauty of His presence in the world. He’s more real than we can comprehend.
Lyrics
Sometimes, I wonder where the wonder has gone Sometimes, I wish I felt the joy in my song I once did Way back when I wanna grow up with a faith like a child Unlearn the fear and run back into the wild Oh Father Help me remember
You’re still the one I call Savior The author and the miracle maker Unlocker of the prison doors You’re still good, and I’m still yours You’re still a broken-heart healer My rescue and my soul’s redeemer With every day, I’m seeing it more You’re still good, and I’m still yours
None of my questions ever scare you away And every time I fall, I fall into grace That knows me And holds me You’re so much bigger than the doubt that I see Help me surrender into your mystery I trust you I still do
You’re still the one I call Savior The author and the miracle maker Unlocker of the prison doors You’re still good, and I’m still yours You’re still a broken-heart healer My rescue and my soul’s redeemer With every day, I’m seeing it more You’re still good, and I’m still yours
Yours and yours forever Loved, adored and treasured Help me to remember That’s never gonna change
(I’m still) Yours and yours forever Loved, adored and treasured Help me to remember That’s never gonna change
Closing Thoughts
“Still Yours” reflects the thematic and biblical proclamations in Psalm 139:17-18 (NKJV): "How precious are Your thoughts to me, O God. How great is the sum of them? If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand. When I awake, I am still with You."
Several scripture passages discuss our identity in Christ; this song is similar. After repeated listens, the song's truth becomes more profound, accompanied by the comforting messages of the Bible that God is love, and we love because He first loved us.
This beautiful song of encouragement reminds us to live as a light and know we can do anything through Christ. God will never fail us or forsake us until the work of the Lord is finished. According to Jeremiah 29:11, God has great plans for all His children.
“Still Yours” is about faith and letting God's plans be revealed. It expresses the truth of our earthly challenges and celebrates God's sovereignty, professing that He is the ultimate ruler over our lives. This song has resonated deeply with me, reminding me that Jesus commands us to trust God completely, no matter our circumstances, personal distractions, or concerns.
Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” God tells us in the Bible that we can do anything in Christ with faith. The impactful lyrics convicted me, and I find immense comfort in this song filled with biblical truth. The Holy Spirit gives us new life, and we no longer have to live with our guilt, fears, perfectionism, or worries. We are new creations in Christ.
These songs express the longing for Jesus to make us whole, and I pray for my family to feel this in their hearts as well. God doesn’t make bad things happen to us. He came to give us life and allow us to live with Him eternally by trusting in Jesus alone for our salvation. God is more significant than any calamity we experience in this world. His love never fails.
Sarah writes and sings her breath, given to her by God, into anointed new songs for the church. This powerful song, a stand-out anthem with a convicting declaration, will bless you. We can all celebrate the truth behind this song.
We're fearfully, wonderfully, and perfectly made. We can sing to God with all our hearts:
You’re still the one I call Savior, the author and the miracle maker, unlocker of the prison doors You’re still good, and I’m still Yours You’re still a broken heart healer, my rescue and my soul’s redeemer With every day, I’m seeing it more You’re still good, and I’m still Yours
Amen to that.
