In mid-December, my family and I had the wonderful opportunity to attend Point of Grace's Comfort & Joy Tour featuring worship-driven artist Jason Gray. We traveled to Manheim, Pennsylvania on Friday, December 13 as the event was held in Landis Hall at The Junction Center. This last-minute decision was a delightful surprise for my wife, who has been a fan of Point of Grace since her teenage years in the late 1990s. Also, it was a welcomed change to our busy Christmas preparation plans.
Point of Grace, renowned for their festive content, has released five Christmas albums, one Christmas DVD (A Point of Grace Christmas - 2020), and a Christmas book (When Love Came Down at Christmas - 2000). The Comfort & Joy Tour marks their sixth holiday-themed tour across the United States. This tour is set to cover ten cities in December, running from the 5th to the 21st, and will conclude in Bristol, Indiana.
Approximately 600 fans gathered as the show kicked off precisely at 7:30 P.M. The trio of ladies started with a selection of Christmas classics before Jason Gray joined them on stage for their exclusive tour song, "Comfort and Joy." Following this, Jason Gray continued with his solo opening set. Among the highlights from his impressive 17-year music career were "Ave Maria (The Song for Mary)," "Remind Me Who I Am," "Glow in the Dark," and the audience favorite "Jesus Loves You (And I'm Trying)."
The Point of Grace ladies graced the stage once more, delighting the audience with a selection of cherished Christmas classics before shifting the evening's tone to something more soothing and laid-back. A cozy corner of the stage featured a couch, a comfortable-looking chair, a coffee table, and adorable Christmas decorations, providing a retreat for the singers throughout the night. At one point, they gathered to share which two items they would be most thrilled to find in their stockings. Later, accompanied by Jason Gray, they read selections from Luke, chapter two of the Bible, illuminating the beloved Christmas narrative from biblical times. Finally, the girls shared excerpts from their book, How You Live: Lessons Learned From Point of Grace (2020).
Before the intermission, the Point of Grace trio, together with volunteers from Child Fund, roamed the venue, encouraging guests to sponsor children in need throughout Honduras. My wife expressed her admiration for how the group actively engaged by distributing packets. It was the first time we witnessed a performing artist taking such an initiative! Shortly after, Jason Gray dressed as a Christmas elf and handed out mini candy canes to children and excited attendees in the audience. This created a charming and lighthearted moment during a splendid evening filled with worship, joy, and a heartfelt reminder of the true meaning of the Christmas season: Christ Jesus.
Most of the evening, my daughters were buzzing with energy, either singing along to classic Christmas songs, dancing, or simply enjoying the moment with cheerful smiles and a sense of joy in their preteen spirits. My wife and I looked forward to an evening that would allow us to escape the hustle and bustle of reality, as we transformed into Christmas carolers among the crowd. Overall, this tour provided the musical remedy we needed to shift our mindset for the season and even helped us feel a sense of renewal.
