Each week, dozens of singles and a handful of projects are released in the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) and Urban Soul spaces. Below, we listen to a few highlights and list the rest for your own discovery. As always, follow our New Christian Rap & Hip Hop playlist on Spotify and Apple Music to listen to all the latest.
Lecrae and Miles Minnick - "Heaven Sent" (releasing on Saturday, March 15) Reach Records’ co-founder and artist Lecrae teams up with the GLO. Collective’s Bay Area phenomenon Miles Minnick once again for a certified hit. Previously, the two artists linked for the single “BIG!” (2023) which currently possesses over 1.7 million streams on Spotify alone. Even more exciting news, Lecrae is going to join Minnick at the infamous Rolling Loud Festival in Inglewood, California on Saturday to perform this latest track. Minnick is the only Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) artist slated to perform at this decade-old hip-hop mainstream festival.
Throughout their careers, both Lecrae and Minnick have championed unity and uplifted the next generation of artists, and their combined energy is undeniable. “Heaven Sent” includes a sample from a 1992 hip-hop west coast classic most should easily pick up on. The overall production is a creative blend of the east and the west and a brilliant homage to ‘Crae and Minnick. During any warm leisurely drive, you can ensure I’ll have this track blasting with all my windows down. Stream “Heaven Sent” on Spotify and Apple Music.
International Show feat. Montell Jordan and Miles Minnick - "How We Do It" Studmire & Co. along with RMG Amplify’s International Show offers a refreshed vision on a 1995 R&B classic. If a song has any substance related to the west coast, it’s a safe bet GLO. Collective’s Miles Minnick will add his own spice to the artistic efforts. Boston’s own artist, producer, music director, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter has handcrafted an instant classic. “How We Do It” showcases the individual efforts of both Show and Minnick and how they win souls for the Kingdom on their respective coasts. The track was produced with excellence by Roy Studmire and Deonne Burns. The cover art even drips with creatively using concepts from the Grand Theft Auto gaming series. Don’t forgot about this Spring release wen it’s time for summer BBQs and parties. Stream “How We Do It” on Spotify and Apple Music.
BACK ROW HERO (Punch Edition) by Gavin the Hotrod
Previously, APOLLO RECORDS / RMG Amplify’s Gavin the Hotrod released a seven-track project on December 6 titled, BACK ROW HERO. This was his label debut drenched with strong lyrical themes and introspective concepts. The current Deluxe: Punch Edition of that project has dropped with six new tracks focused on a more gritty, lyrical-driven approach instead of fast tempo-laced bops.
Favorites include “MYKAEL THE HOTROD” featuring DJ Mykael V, “PUNCH DRUNK,” and “CAN’T NEVER COULD.” The entire project was produced by Andrew Prim. This set of tracks relies heavy on witty punchlines, lyricism at its finest, and a firm foundation displaying how talented CHH artists are to date. The talent seems endless anymore. Marty from Social Club Misfits has an incredible foundation for his label, as they’re just getting started. Stream BACK ROW HERO (Punch Edition) on Spotify here.
