Abbi Walker is a young woman who has a heart for music and ministry. Abbi has traveled with Mpact Events for the last 10 summers organizing, leading worship, ministering to girls, and teaching elective classes on ministry and to teenage girls with a series of camps. Over those 10 years, as well as growing up in a pastor's home, Abbi has seen virtually every side of ministry... and it has caused her to long for truth, honesty, right-ness, and healing within the lives of His children and the church. In worship and life, Abbi has a heart for people to truly encounter the presence of a very real and ever living God. She leads worship for youth and church events across the country, as well as speaking to youth and women. Life has been the inspiration for her songs and words. Abbi feels that true ministry often flows out of the broken places of our lives, and she strives to speak and minister out of those sweet places of honesty and vulnerability. ...philosophy on worship "It must be by the Holy Spirit and truth. We cannot worship in the Spirit alone, for the Spirit with out truth is helpless. We cannot worship in truth alone, for that would be theology without fire. Worship must be in spirit and in truth! It must be the Spirit of God and the truth of God. When a person, yielding to God and believing the truth of God is filled with the Spirit of God, even his faintest whisper will be worship." --A.W. Tozer A B B I W A L K E R Hope Of A Little Green IN A PHRASE: Abbi Walker has all the trappings...voice, personality, and presence...of an artist that can make it in this crazy world of the industry. Right now, Abbi Walker is what most would describe as "indie", and I agree with that to the point that her newest effort is independent of label boundaries. But when most use "indie" as a derogatory term toward the quality of a record, then in regards to Hope Of A Little Green, I would have to disagree. First, Walker's latest has her in the driver's seat as every track, save two, is written from her own perspective. She even wrote most of the music for the project, which ultimately shows her talent. Her voice is also what adds to the experience, as its a little pop, with some sultry soul in it. The album kicks off with the most soulful song on the record, Save Me. Walker's presence on the piano is strong, although not as strong as her voice. Wade follows with her interpretation of the old spiritual. It puts the definition of art into practice as those guitar licks wrap around this lyric to make something old become new again. The title track, howbeit a very unique title, is one of the album's best as it comes from a heart of repentance that just wants things to be better in the arms of Jesus. The album's most fun song follows in Run as it describes a love that has been distant and has now come back to rekindle the flame. The rest of the record falls into the category of modern worship, at least in my mind, when you include cuts from writers like Jason Morant and Reuben Morgan. Offering, Lovely, and Sovereign Hand are easily the best tracks of the set as Walker penned each one, but even her covers of I Give You My Heart and Lovesong bring more to these cuts than we've heard in a long time. My final word... I love discovering artists in new ways. (I met Abbi on MySpace!) But looking past that, Abbi Walker is a fresh voice that I hope continues to grow in all areas of her artistry. And I also hope that I continue to musically hear from her heart for a long time to come. Until Next Time... The J Man www.thejman.com
