For the past nine years, The Rubyz have introduced the world to some of the best young talent in the Christian pop arena. Originally formed to offer strong role models and a positive musical alternative for young adults, The Rubyz have established a trusted brand with a passion to reach a young audience.
For 2016, The Rubyz current lineup of Addy Schneider (14), Jessica Coffey (14) and Tanner Davis (17) is launching the EP "I'll Follow You" just in time for summer. Filled with big pop anthems reinforced by strong vocals, "I'll Follow You" promises to encourage and inspire teens to think of themselves as VIPs -- young adults who are focused on Value, Identity and Purpose.
The Rubyz have created a pedigree of young performers who have moved on to incredible careers and ministries in their own right, including Marissa Milele, (2007-2010) who was nominated this year for a Teen Choice Awards after her performance on So You Think You Can Dance?, Cami Childs, who is currently pursuing an acting career in Hollywood, and Alexis Slifer, who is currently completing her debut solo album.
In 2013, iShine did an open casting call, that made no reference to which project was seeking new talent. After winning over the judges, Addy, Jessica and Tanner arrived on set for a filming of iShine Connect, only to discover that the show was a goodbye to Olivia and Alexis, and was welcoming them as the newest members. Immediately, the trio began rigorous choreography and voice training, and laying the foundation for the current incarnation of The Rubyz.
"As soon as we found out we were going to be members of The Rubyz, we were more than excited," explains Tanner. "To be able to minister to and influence so many kids is one of the greatest feelings we've ever felt. We know this is not only a great opportunity for us musically, but we have an added responsibility to be role models to kids around the world. It is a huge honor to be a part of this legacy, and we take the job very seriously!"
During the summer of 2015, the trio set out on a road trip to perform at festivals, concerts and generally discover what it means to be in The Rubyz. After the journey, they spent a few hours discussing what they each learned about the band, and about themselves. This discussion became the center of the first song they wrote together as The Rubyz, the title track "I'll Follow You".
"I'll Follow You," their debut EP, features the production prowess of Grammy and Dove Award winning writer/producer Chuck Butler who has a musical pedigree including work with The Backstreet Boys, Nick Carter, TobyMac, Mandisa, Audio Adrenaline and Tenth Avenue North to name a few. His songs have been popular with TV producers as well, with placements on shows including GLEE, American Idol, Extreme Makeover and So You Think You Can Dance?.
"Working with Chuck was absolutely amazing," Tanner shared. "From the moment we got in the studio we immediately became friends. Chuck really understood not only what we like musically, but what the focus of The Rubyz is at the core. It was incredible to watch him transform simple melody lines into something completely amazing."
The four original songs on the EP lyrically match the mission of the band. The first single "Breathtakingly Beautiful" is an anthem reminiscent Proverbs 31:10. This verse was the inspiration for the name of the band, reminding us that a woman's worth is far more than rubies. The title track, "Live It Awake" and "One" help young listeners to feel empowered to step out in faith and make a positive impact on the world. The EP ends with a new, young version of the Christmas classic "Angels We Have Heard on High."
Tanner continues, "God sees each of us as beautiful. We hope that through 'I'll Follow You', young adults will embrace of the unique way that God made each of us. So many kids struggle with self-image and popularity. We want everyone to know that God has a plan and a path for each of us. We don't have to be nervous about what is to come, because God made us just the way we are. God is trustworthy, we are beautiful in his eyes and this allows us embrace every moment in life!"
