At the core of every artist there is vision. It is fueled by passion and driven by inspiration. Sometimes that vision results in a time of reflection and re-focus. Artists who choose to step away from the momentum of success may find clarity and a re-ignition of what led them to pursue their dreams in the first place. If they are fortunate, they will gain an understanding of what makes them who they are and they will be able to stand firm in the re-invention that will take place. Such is the case with Callann Lane.

Over the last two years, Callann has taken the time and care to step back from a career marked with many successful milestones (see Career Highlights) in order to center on who she is and where she wants to go. Now, she is re-emerging with a new focus and it all began with her name. From Radio Disney to Top 40 radio to the CCM market, her fans will know and remember her as "Cali". In order to trademark her name & likeness, "Cali" was advised to establish herself in the entertainment business as Callann Lane, her birth name. Another time of change would happen in May of 09. That month, Callann packed her bags and left for the country of India where she would live for 6 weeks while working with two well respected organizations: Project Rescue and Bombay Teen Challenge. Along with Callann's help, these organizations are working feverishly to combat human trafficking, especially to young girls within the country of India and abroad. Her time with Project Rescue and India Teen Challenge was life-changing to say the least and invited a time of focus.

In the entertainment industry, so much time and energy can be spent on breaking into the business. At times it's difficult to maintain the status quo, thus, artists will fade away. What may seem like a fade out to some has been a time of reflection and purpose for Callann. Caught between the lines of her Faith and life experience, Callann has gained respect and notoriety for her work with Radio Disney, Mainstream Top 40 radio, and the Christian music industry. She is an interesting hybrid of sorts. On one hand she is very grounded in her beliefs and on the other she is very much aware that not everyone shares those beliefs. Callann is an artist that mixes both of these truths in a consistent and relevant way through her artistry. This unique mixture is what makes her both intriguing and engaging. She speaks to the joys and pains of life while holding onto the integrity of what matters the most. This is the reason for her appeal to such a wide demographic. Her message is about life and love with an undertone of Faith that, Callann maintains, drives her to pursue this life that she loves.

This new chapter in her life and career will have Callann releasing a series of EP's over the next year. "My fans are always looking for something fresh," says Callann. "In the past we would release a collection of 12 songs or so and a single with a video. It would take sometimes, over a year to gain any momentum. By then, my fans had already bought the album and would be looking for something new. We decided to approach the release of new material in a different way so that we meet the demand." The EP's will be released digitally at first. Then at year's end, a tangible digi-pack containing every digital album plus bonus material will be released. The first digital collection is appropriately entitled, "Rise Like A Star".

In addition to her new music venture, Callann has also been developing a musical based on a play called the "Broken Heart". Callann came across the play through her work with Young Life, a non-denominational mentoring program for teenagers. She saw so much of her own story reflected in the storyline of the main character of the play that she knew it was something she wanted to introduce to her fans.

So, there you have it. An artist who stepped away, knowing there would be drawbacks that might allow her rising star to fade. But, the reprieve opened up new worlds and invited her into a realm of possibilities that allow her the margin to fully explore who she was created to be. Life is influencing art, "RISE LIKE A STAR".
