January 15, 2008 - Danny Liston, veteran rocker and front man of
popular world renowned rock band "Mama's Pride," will release his debut record, No Other Name
with Above Entertainment and distribution through Koch Entertainment, on April 1, 2008.
No Other Name is a musical reflection of Liston's powerful testimony, expressed through soulful
worship songs and sincere lyrics. The debut single, "Change The World," written for the global
relief ministry Service International, is going for adds to Christian radio this month.
Liston's undeniable ability as a multi-faceted musician, singer and songwriter has gained him
national attention since the early 1970's when Danny and his brother Pat started Mama's Pride,
a southern rock band in the same vein as legendary acts Lynyrd Skynyrd, Wet Willie, .38 Special,
and The Charlie Daniel's Band. As one of the most influential groups in the growing southern
rock movement, Mama's Pride earned a reputation as one of the hardest working and musically
inventive bands on the music scene. In 1975, Mama's Pride signed a record deal with Atlantic
Records under the legendary co-founder and executive of Atlantic Records, Ahmet Ertegun.
Produced by the highly acclaimed Jim Gaines (Stevie Ray Vaughn, Santana, John Lee Hooker) at the
famed Memphis, TN-based Ardent Studios, Liston's upcoming release, No Other Name combines
sultry blues and rock-influenced roots that resonate with his powerful testimony. Reflecting his
vision for sharing the message of hope and mercy, No Other Name features songs like "God Will
Make a Way" and "Look What You've Done for Me," an anthem about God's grace. "That song is
my testimony," says Liston.
The 12-track No Other Name features uplifting and heartfelt worship songs reflective of the
remarkable spiritual journey that gives Liston his powerful platform to minister to people in all
walks of life. After dealing with years of drug and alcohol abuse while touring with artists like
Lynyrd Skynyrd and Gregg Allman, Danny's addiction and destructive lifestyle began plaguing him
off the road and in his personal life.
It wasn't until Liston was working as a roofer in St. Louis, MO, that he got a wake-up call and
realized he was going down a path of permanent damage, much like his father who had died from
a life of alcoholism. "I didn't know what to do, but it was the first time I ever had to admit to myself
that I was out of control," he says. "So I got on my knees on this roof top and I told God, 'Lord,
I don't know what to do and I don't want to die. You're going to have to show me something.'"
After a two year struggle with his abusive past, Liston dedicated his life to the Lord, overcame his
addiction and just recently celebrated his 19th anniversary of sobriety. "He who has been forgiven
much, loves much, and I have been forgiven a truck load," Liston says. "If God could put me on the
front lines to convey these messages to people and assure them that there is hope at the end of
the day, it's the greatest gift I could ever ask for."
Since redirecting his passion for music as a means for ministry, Danny and his wife, Pam, have
been diligently involved in Service International, a global disaster relief ministry founded in 1985
as a support agency for missionaries and other charitable organizations. "Service International is
an extremely important part of my life and my wife's life," says Liston. "We love being with people
and love trying to make a difference in people's lives, and that's what Service International is all
about." For more information on Service International, visit www.serviceinternational.org.
