NuTestament was formed in June of 1995 under the headship of Pastor Aloysious D. Denard. At that time the members included Corinthian Brown, Willie Tursh, Joe Snooks, Chris Palmo, Johnny Doe, Raymond Collins, Chad Farmer, and Pastor Steve T. Wilson Jr. NuTestament attributes there interest in music to the Supreme Stars, a local Jacksonville group, and many groups that laid the foundation in the traditional gospel genre.
In 2004 the Lord led the group down a different path. The Ministry that they were now sharing would allow them to travel to many areas throughout the country. In the same year was added to the group, Wallace Nelson, Lavaughn Murphy, and Bruce Cohen, who were instrumental in transforming the music aspect of the ministry to fit the sounds of today. In the latter part of 2004, Frank Bethea, Alton Solomon, Michael Wyche, and Travese White, was added to the group.
In 2007 a young man named Chris Williams joined the group, and once again God was ordering them in a new direction. With every ministry through song, and every step ordered by God, they would now reach a plateau that many still yet dream of.
The Lord has blessed this group abundantly, and it has become very evident that they are not ashamed to spread the gospel within their music and song ministry. NuTestament has accepted the call and vowed that in all things, they will continue to acknowledge the Lord, and give him thanks, praise, and adoration for the blessings already abundantly received.
The Lord has allowed NuTestament to share many golden moments while ministering unto His people. Although they have never been awarded a Stellar, Grammy, or Dove award, they’ve witnessed to many souls that have now been converted and turned over to the Lord Jesus Christ. They’ve also shared the stage with a number of gospel top artists, such as, The Canton Spirituals, The Williams Brothers, Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC’s, The Pilgrim Jubilees, and Keith “Wonder Boy” Johnson and The Spiritual Voices, to name a few.
The name NuTestament derives from the acronym “NU” compiled of a variation of traditional text representing the Alexandrian, Egyptian, and Greek descriptions of the New Testament text. The word “testament” is testari in its Latin form meaning to be a witness, or a call to witness with an expression of conviction. In the late Latin form the word testamentum means covenant with God. In putting both together you experience the name NuTestament; a variety of God’s covenant people called to witness through song.
NuTestament brings to the table superb vocals, accompanied by outstanding musicianship, songwriting and arranging abilities, and are now bringing about a new meaning to live performing.
The current members include Pastor Aloysious D. Denard, Corinthian Brown, Chad Farmer, Michael Wyche, Alton Solomon, Wallace Nelson, Janeice Henry, Travese White, Chris Williams, and Johnny Doe. Together we ask that through prayer, God invokes upon us His blessings as we continue “Working for Jesus”.
