Best known for their outstanding harmonies and vertical lyrics, The Sonflowerz bring the term 'sister-act' to life. From their early beginnings in 1999 in their church youth band, this award-winning duo has stayed true to their worship band roots. Their dad, the first musician of the family, and British mum, raised the sisters to love music, songwriting and ministry.
After two independent releases, the duo collaborated with six-time Dove award winner Don Koch on their follow up album "All Over the World" (Provident Distribution / Integrity Europe). While attending the 2007 GMA Music in the Rockies, Elissa and Becca took home first place in two categories of the competition in Estes Park, Colorado. Their song "Edge Of My Seat" picked up the grand prize from OurStage.com outvoting all songs in 56 genres, while "My Adoration" rose to number two on the U.S. INSPO radio charts, airing on 600+ stations.
The Leander sisters have since hit the road alongside artists like Third Day (in London), Building 429, Laura Story, Needtobreathe, Sanctus Real and Sara Groves (on her New England Christmas tour). Leading worship for national event "You and Your Girl", The Sonflowerz joined forces with LifeWay and author/speaker Vicki Courtney to reach 18,000 moms and daughters in 22 venues, culminating in a nationwide simulcast with 60+ hosting sites.
Elissa and Becca employed their sisterly knack for collaboration to plan their double wedding in 2010. Their British great-grandmother was married in a double wedding with her sister in 1908. A family tradition was reborn.
September 2013 marks the release of a new EP titled "Love Walked In". With a new music video to back up the title track, this EP has an exciting debut. "Love Walked In", produced by Michael Rossback (Gungor, Paul Baloche), is filled with inspiring, story-driven and worshipful lyrics.
The EP displays a fresh, organic sound, highlighting the vocal duo's top-notch harmonies. Elissa and Becca co-wrote the five new songs and recorded instrumentation. The 6th song, My Adoration, was re-created with simplicity. The worshipful track is a favorite for The Sonflowerz to play live.
The summer of 2013 provided a "Kickstarter" opportunity that was overwhelmingly supported by fans. This fundraising campaign brought reality for "Made To Shine", the title of their first book and daily devotional written to teen girls. What started with songwriting and blogging to teens, grew with the sisters' passion for girls ministry. "Made To Shine" is expected to release in October 2013 with the launch a corresponding girls' events tour.
