Branden Anderson, Lamonte Harris, and Rufus Johnson of GI have become one of the leading urban male gospel groups today.
The origins of GI, also known as God’s Image, go back to 1997 when Branden Anderson and his brother Marlon formed the group in Richmond, Virginia. After building a solid reputation regionally for almost a decade, they released their national debut self-titled album, which peaked at number 18 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Album Charts, in 2009. Their hit single “Get Up” remained on the Top 30 Billboard Gospel Songs Chart for most of the year, and their video reached the No. 1 position on Gospel Music Channel. Their urban hit single “Temptation” garnered crossover success on Urban Radio Formats.
Their second album, The Next Dimension, was released in 2011, peaking at #15 on Billboard's Top Gospel Charts and generating the radio hit "Forever We Will Worship." Marlon Anderson eventually left the group in 2014 while Rufus Johnson, who founding member Branden Anderson has known since the third grade, came aboard.
This reconfiguring resulted in the 2017 album, Winning, and its smash hit "Pray And Don't Worry." Further hits included "We Win" and "I'm Ready," all of which reached the Top 20 on the Gospel charts.
The group releases their albums on their own imprint BGA Records. Each member co-owns, operates, and holds executive positions within the company.
