No stranger to the music industry, Mariea has spent twenty years promoting, publishing and performing music. She has worked with many wonderful Christian, Gospel and Secular artist as a musician, director, speaker, consultant and singer. She has also educated, tutored and mentored many students in music and in the music industry. She is singer/songwriter, educator, publisher and producer.
Mariea grew up singing in the church, and states, "The youngest I can remember singing is when I was six years old". Her favorites in her repertoire at that time, included, "A Sunbeam", "My Job Is Working For Jesus" and "I Call Him Jesus My Rock". She would sing and play the latter song from church to church as a very young girl. She could play by "ear" and the people in her small town community were amazed at her talent so young.
She founded Mariea Watkins Music Company in 1989, a print music publishing company, (the name changed in 1995 to Watkins Music Company) now known as Watkins Music, LLC (which includes the following divisions: Jewelstone Records, Watkins Music Publishing, Winzmar Music, Watkins Music Productions, Watkins Music Publications and Watkins Music Services). She expanded it into a small music publishing company, where she administers some 2000 copyrights. (Songs from this catalog has had performances on many networks including FOX, UPN, BET, and CBS to name a few).
Mariea has performed on television, locally, nationally and internationally. She has performed at the White House, the Pentagon, for the Armed Services, at Universities, Conventions, Schools, Hospitals, Parades, Outdoor concerts, Festivals, Prisons, Correctional Institutions, and at many churches of various denominations. She has served on music panels for the music business and has conducted music workshops, seminars and served as choral and music director throughout the United States.
She has given music consulting services to the nationally televised Bobby Jones Gospel, and has served on the Board of Director's for Florida's "Gosplosion" (Gospel Music Convention) and on the board for the American Cancer Society. She has also served as a chapter representative for the Gospel Music Workshop of America, a member of The Gospel Announcer's Guild and as the Dean of Education for the Florida Gospel Announcer's Guild, a subsidiary of the national guild. She has promoted cancer awareness through her "Gospel Awards" which has featured actors, many artist and cancer survivors (she is also a cancer survivor).
Mariea was commissioned as the choral conductor for the Christmas concert for recording artist, Bryan Duncan, (Sparrow Records) and for former Warner Brother's artist "Twinkle". Dr. Watkins has written music reviews for magazines in Florida and has been featured as a soloist with full orchestra in Miami on a Gospel concert with Yolanda Adams. She has performed and directed choirs for Shirley Bassett, Paul Anka, Dorothy Love, The Late, Albertina Walker, The late, Bishop Walter Hawkins, Dr. Bobby Jones and many other Gospel and recording artist.
Mariea ran a very successful Vocal Studio, as a professional vocal coach to select individuals. One of which was Molly Kallins who starred in the Broadway musical "Gypsy", with Bernadette Peters, Danielle White winner on American Junior Idol on the Fox network, Ashley Rickards, who landed roles on CSI/New York, and "Ugly Betty", and has a new role on CW's Network's "One Tree Hill"; Teresa Stanley, who performed in New York on Broadway's "The Color Purple", featuring Fantasia.
She is currently completing her debut album titled, "SOON" (all original songs she wrote, recorded and produced) which is scheduled for release in the fall of 2011. The single is scheduled for release, April 26, 2011 on her Jewelstone Records label. When asked why now? Her answer is, "Because this is the time to fulfill this part of my musical journey!
