Christmas takes on a new flavor with Josh Caterer of Smoking Popes’ new EP – The Heart of Christmas.
Josh Caterer, most notably known as the leader of the iconic power-pop band Smoking Popes, has created a Christmas EP that gives a new twist to the typical sounds of the holiday season. Staying true to his Popes roots, The Heart of Christmas showcases Josh’s unique crooner-meets-punk vocal styling that is sure to please every listener. Ranging from traditional sounds to more modern melodies, the EP even includes a soon to be children’s classic, “Conroy the Gingerbread Boy.”
Recorded by Andy Gerber at Million Yen Studios, and mixed by Matt Allison at Atlas Studios, The Heart of Christmas became a labor of love for Josh, as he sang all the vocals and played all instruments, including guitar, bass, keyboard, sleigh bells, tambourine, shakers, hand claps, foot stomps and 2x4s.
2011 proved to be a banner year for the Popes with the release of their first concept album This is Only A Test and extensive touring throughout the US with bands such as Alkaline Trio.
Now with release of The Heart of Christmas, Josh will head out on his own, touring throughout the Midwest and West Coast during the month of December. Offering a more intimate vibe and holiday flavor, Josh will be performing a collection of acoustic interpretations of favorite Smoking Popes songs, along with some Christmas surprises.
