Oftentimes people are surprised to find that Cities Outcry has been together for only a year. Their devotion to Christ is the foundation of the band, which is cause for their uncommon chemistry. “I can tell the difference between a band that has been put together by God, and a band that has been forced together,” Lightforce Studios Producer Jason Vorpagel said. Through prayer and mutual considerat...ion, Cities Outcry went through multiple member changes within the first year. “We spent most of this time seeking God’s plan for us,” founder and front man Sam Perez said. “We are still in amazement of His perfect orchestration in ministry opportunities, connections and relationships.”
Perez originally set out on a solo project, but God quickly directed his heart toward making the band a group effort. He had been trying to launch his solo ministry that was 7 years in the making but on January 28, 2011 the band as a whole had their first opportunity for ministry. Perez (lead vocals, guitars), Greg North (guitars), and Aric North (keyboards, vocals) immediately knew God’s calling for their life. “Both Greg and I had been searching for a solid band or music ministry to be a part of,” Aric said. “As soon as our set finished on that first night we knew we had found more than what we had hoped and prayed for.” Six months later a good friend of the band, Frank Lozano (bass), made a move from Portland, Oregon to his hometown of Sunnyside, Washington. God’s perfect timing brought Frank and Sam together just as Cities Outcry was in need of a bassist. Another six months later, Isiaha “Izzy” Rodriguez (drums) was asked to play for a youth winter camp. “By that experience we knew Izzy was meant to be a part of the team,” Greg said.
President of Lightforce Ministries, Keith Bennett, blessed the band by not only helping with promotion, but also recording their first album at Lightforce Studios. Dan Rider, head of Off the Hook Promotions, also played a huge part in promoting Cities Outcry.
The heart and purpose of Cities Outcry is to inspire wholehearted worship of the one true God. Whether it is leading worship or playing original music, Cities Outcry desires to impact cities through lifting God’s name high.
