Born in Ogbomosho, Nigeria Oluwaboriogun “Bori” Afolabi moved with his family to Canada in 1984. His first musical memory is Keith Green’s ‘Easter Song’, which he remembers hearing at the age of 6. Bori started playing drums at age 11, then picked up guitar in 9th grade and joined fellow schoolmates in his first band, Starchild. Starchild was offered a record deal with EMI Music Canada, but the ba...nd dissolved a few months later.
Through Starchild Bori had the opportunity to work with renowned Canadian producer Gavin Brown (Metric, Billy Talent, Three Days Grace) and solidified a relationship with music producer and The Rodney Company partner Karsten Shreve.
In his late teens, Bori formed his own band, Running For Life, and continued to hone his skills as a band leader and studio/stage musician on drums, bass and guitar. Together with guitarist Daniele Ritorto, Bori then transitioned musically as lead singer and principal songwriter to form a four-piece rock band, Firelife.
With the transition from college student to professional musician came a divine change in Bori’s life. After years of marginalizing the claim of God on his life, Bori hit a mental, physical and spiritual low and found himself in a place where he knew that he had to make profound changes. He submitted his life, hopes and talent completely to God’s will and has never looked back.
In 2010, after penning dozens of songs for talented artists worldwide, Bori became a #1 Billboard charting songwriter when he co-wrote “Save Your Life” for the Grammy nominated and six-time gold record-selling band Newsboys. As present co-front man for acclaimed Christian pop/rock band BENBORI, Bori has continued to honor his unwavering commitment to God and lifelong passion for music.
