Based out of Marietta, Georgia, Greater Lights is an up and coming Christian rock band formed in 2013. Though each of its five band members live in different cities spread across Georgia, the chemistry between them musically and spiritually is undeniable. Lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Tim Nugent once said, “I’ve never been in a band that meshed so well. It’s like we’ve all played together for years.” Members of the band have shared the stage with accomplished musicians and bands such as David Crowder, Tenth Avenue North, Mercy Me, and Lecrae. Their intense love for Christ and spreading the Gospel can be heard in their music and seen in their live experience.
Tim Nugent founded the band and brought all of its members together. He is also the praise band coordinator and director of youth ministries at Powers Ferry United Methodist Church. Tim has been married to his wife, Sheena, since April of 2012. He has a daughter, Tegan, and another daughter on the way. Powers Ferry UMC is where Tim and keyboard player and female vocalist, Jessica McRee, first met. Jessica is the youngest member of the band and is a full-time college student. Outside of the band, Jessica stays very active in her church and enjoys keeping her nephews on a weekly basis. Tim met vocalist and electric guitarist Mason Rudder through his home church, Oak Leaf Church in Cartersville, Georgia. Mason is a full-time college student at the University of Georgia and double majors in environmental engineering and water and soil resources. Drummer Kacey Johnson auditioned for the band and was instantly a perfect fit. Kacey participates in music and youth ministries at Community Bible Church and works at Mike’s Big Burger in McDonough, Georgia. Trent Watson, vocalist and bassist, met Tim Nugent through Kennesaw United Methodist Church. Trent leads worship at Kennesaw UMC and is a full-time college student.
Greater Lights recently traveled to LedBelly Sound Studio in Dawsonville, Ga where they recorded their first Ep in December of 2013. The Ep, entitled Better Days, consists of five songs original to the band. Greater Lights plans on returning to the studio come January to begin recording their first full-length album.
