Every music page or blog requests a bio. A platform to stand on, to exclaim "what I've done up to this point."
I started to think about that. Then I started to pray about it...
What is the point of it? Does it really matter who I've performed or toured with? How many studios I've recorded in? How many "famous" people I've worked with? In the scope of things what does the purpose boil down to? It seemed very self-serving.
For me, my musical journey and all of its worldly accolades do not reflect who I am now. I wondered, why would I write these things?
A musician's bio, in my humble opinion, should be the music he or she creates itself. Alongside of the "lifesong" he or she lives!
If an artist writes poor songs but has opened for a million national acts or worked with huge producers...would it drive anyone to listen to their album more than the artist with great songs and no professional credits? If so, then what's the need other the self-gratification?
An artist's music most certainly tells you where that person's heart is...that's the TRUE bio! His or her heart now!
So for me every album I've created, every dream I've pursued, every note I've sung, every chord I've played and every worldly accolade I've achieved, I'm laying down at the feet of Jesus.
Who I am now in Jesus is all that matters. The music can be my bio. My actions will reflect my Lifesong: Philippians 2:3 "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourself."
