Growing up in the turbulent 1960's and 1970's instilled within youth a sense of rebellion and fierce independence. From the war in Vietnam, the assasination of civic leaders, the summer of love and riots, to Watergate, Kent State, the oil embargo, and disco. We became the poster children for free love, chemical abuse, and self-indulgence. We did not trust authority. Yet, through all of this, the Holy Spirit of God worked and moved among our generation as we came to the end of ourselves searching for meaning apart from Him. In the chaos of this time, God stirred the hearts of a new generation to seek Him, and not neccessarily in the "traditional way". Out of this moving was born the so called "Jesus Culture" along with the musical notions of the new generation. It was here that musical pioneers, on whose shoulders we stand today, were born. Norman, Keaggy, Maguire, 2nd Chapter, etc.
Our Rock was formed in 1991 by Lowell Webster and Bill Raven, 2 members of that generation.
The band was formed to bring "updated" hymns to area churches in West Michigan. Today, after 24 years and 5 albums, their vision is to proclaim Jesus Christ in word and music to new generations. They have "been there". They have "done that". And they testify that Jesus is the only hope for the world.
Our Rock is comprised of original members Lowell Webster and Bill Raven, as well as Fred Matthews, G. Kevin Parker and Mark Rawson. Their most recent CD entitled 'WORD' is available through Webster Music.
