Darren Hagood (KnuOrigen) is originally from Los Angeles and currently resides in Abilene, Texas with his wife Gloria. Kay Sade was born in Virginia and raised in New Jersey. KnuOrigen started writing as early as middle school, and later developed his skills into the crafts of poetry and music. Kay Sade grew up performing in choirs, orchestras, and other instrumental ensembles. She invested her love for Christ, music, and Hip Hop into making Christian remixes to rap songs. KnuOrigen and Ki’Shon Furlow had formed a rap duo with the same goal of making music to please Christ.
Coincidentally (or not), Sade had been childhood friends with KnuOrigen’s wife and her twin sister, Ki’Shon Furlow’s wife. In 2014, Mrs. Furlow heard one of Sade’s songs on the Christian Hip Hop magazine Rapzilla and shared the track with with Ki’Shon and KnuOrigen. About a year later in 2015, KnuOrigen offered to help Sade with mixing and mastering services. KnuOrigen and a producer friend of his had been planning to form a Hip Hop collective. Knu was advised to ask Sade to consider becoming a member of the collective, and Sade agreed. The collective trio, called “Out Of The Blue” scaled down to two members shortly before the creation of their debut single and video, “QU.” The phrase “Out Of The Blue” was originally chosen due to the nature of the duo’s coming together. Everything seemed to have just…happened, but they both knew that God’s hand was in it all. The concept of something being created from nothing (Ex Nihilo) resonated with the members, and they moved forward in artistic undertakings to see just where God would take them.
The duo's debut project Blue Gene Origins was released in November of 2015. The release included three music videos, each noted for their captivating visual artistry. Less than six months later the duo began working on their second project and first full-length album entitled Van Goh. Van Goh was released in July of 2016 as a Rapzilla Exclusive album. It took the duo’s sound to an entirely new level and gained the attention of a few more listeners. Both members were invited to perform that Summer at the Legacy Conference in Chicago as Rap Showcase contestants. The Van Goh era hit its climax when the duo released a fully animated music video for track 11 off the album entitled “The Tank” under their new group name, TheKnuBlack.
Now, the two emcees are working on their third project and second full-length album. They hope to continue mastering their art, delivering quality music and visuals, and to fulfill whatever mission God has set for them. Both KnuOrigen and Kay Sade are members of the Church of Christ. “We’re artists. We’re introverts. Most importantly, we are saved by grace through faith and seek to work as unto the Lord in all things.”
