Relient K played its first gig in December 1997, back when Matthew Thiessen and guitarist Matt Hoopes were still in high school and tooling around in the latter's Plymouth Reliant K, which inspired the band's name. The group recorded its first demo the following year with producer Mark Lee Townsend, who has worked on each of the band's subsequent full-length albums (although Five Score And Seven Years Ago was largely produced by Howard Benson).

In the ensuing decade, Relient K has released five full-length albums (of which three have been certified Gold), five EPs and a Christmas collection, toured incessantly, scored a string of hit singles, a Grammy nomination and two Dove awards, and performed on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and numerous other national TV shows. The Los Angeles Times praised Relient K for "its smart blend of punk pop and power pop, weaving together influences as diverse as the Beach Boys, Blink-182 and Fountains of Wayne" while Spin noted: "Few bands play punk-influenced modern rock as proficiently."  But the band's quirky sense of humor remains intact and there's a fresh excitement about the future.

    Relient K = Awesome | Posted July 02, 2009
This group is AMAZING!! They have some really fun songs and some really emotional songs. This group has everything and more. Each song has captivating lyrics. There is always something in the lyrics that make the song that much better. EVERY ALBUM IS WORTH LISTENING TO!!! These guys know what they are doing, and they are really good at what they do. I'm sure they will surprise me with what they come out with next, because I never know what to expect, and that is what makes them that much better.

    Relient K Rox!! | Posted June 24, 2009
I've been listening to Relient K ever since my sister played "Anatomy of the Tongue and Cheek" one night while we were going crazy sliding across the living room floor in bunny slippers (good times, gooood times). Ever since that night while screaming at the top of our lungs to "Sadie Hawkins Dance" (even though I didn't hardly know the words) I have been hooked on Relient K. I am the proud owner of 52 songs of theirs on my ipod plus the Christmas cd (Let it Snow Baby, Let it Reindeer) which I didn't feel like downloading to my ipod since I don't like listening to Christmas songs all year long. I like Relient K because they are just as upbeat and fun to sing to as all the other songs on the charts, but they are also clean and deep. They don't care about being "politicly correct"; they come right out and say things that even challenge our essence of Christianity, such as the song "Down in Flames". But they also have a great sense of humor as in the song "Crayons Can Melt On Us For All I Care". My favorite Relient K song would have to be "Deathbed. It is an 11 minute song (the longest song I have ever heard) and it goes through the whole process of an old man about to die and having flashbacks on his entire life. The song starts out with a lot of humor in the beginning, but my favorite part is at the end when he is about to die. He realizes his fear of Jesus and is praying to him to forgive him. The song took me on an emotional roller coaster because I have been through some of the same struggles with my faith. To wrap this up, I must say that Relient K has been and probably will continue to be my favorite band of all time.
