The Real Nilla, born Douglas Jackson Battle, began creating his distinct blend of hip hop and pop music in the 5th grade. Wrestling with grief following the loss of a brother, Douglas found solace in songwriting and release in production. The CDs he sold to classmates in school hallways manifested his fight for his faith, relationships, and joy.
While the crux of his content remains unshaken 14 years later, The Real Nilla's years in music production have yielded drastic growth in terms of his content's caliber. Pulling influence from 2000s and 2010s Hip Hop, Alternative Rock, and Pop music as well as modern Pop and EDM, The Real Nilla fuses a lifetime of listening, producing, and living to tread into uncharted waters.
Mixed and mastered by Grammy-nominated Engineer Jonny Grande, The Real Nilla's professional debut Real Ones pays tribute to the people he has counted on through life's ups and downs as well as the music he has turned to in life's greatest battles. His hope? To create music that revitalizes listeners the way his Real Ones have revitalized him.
