Charlie Dodrill is an unlikely "wonder" in the world of music. It seems his stories and music come effortlessly flowing out of him. This is one of the reasons that people, like producer Steve Rosen, are attracted to his gift. But Charlie would argue that the real gift is not his to give. That type of directional music, pointing towards something other, or rather, Someone other; is sorely lacking today. Conversely, I think it would be hard to get offended at the content, because, as exemplified in his latest outing: "Eyes of the Exception"; it just sounds so freakin' good!! His transparent vocal timbre and delivery; and deep, yet simple, acoustic-type arrangements really put you in a good mood. "Littleness is No Obstacle to Love" is my favorite track so far. It has the roots of Charlie's West Virginia heritage, and the wisdom of a traveller, scholar, social worker and one-time monk packed into it. It is really moving. The cast behind Charlie is stellar, all A-List Nashville players, who don't treat the record like another demo being churned out, but a work worthy of the artist. Charlie's a true original, and you can't help but spread the word about his music. It just might grow on you to the point of changing your life.
