Souljahz was a hip-hop group featuring siblings Joshua, Jekob, and Rachael Washington from San Diego, CA. Joshua and Jekob, both gifted athletes, opted for a career in music over college basketball scholarships, while Rachael, an award-winning dancer, was quick to follow the same dream.
With musical influences that range from Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder to Wes Montgomery and the Fugees, the threesome quickly established themselves on the Southern California music scene. They appeared regularly at local churches and talent shows, garnering a fast-growing following in the process. They also appeared on the pilot show for MTV's It's Your Show.
After independently releasing a self-titled album, they released their label debut album, The Fault Is History, in 2002. The album received critical praise for its mature, in-depth lyrics and songwriting. The group was nominated for five Dove Awards, winning two for Best Urban Album Of The Year and Best Rap/Hip-Hop/Dance Recorded Song Of The Year for "All Around The World."
Joshua eventually left the group and Jekob and Rachael changed the name to The Washington Projects in 2007.
