Pop mainstay
Owl City has recorded a new cover of
Chris Rice's song "Untitled Hymn."
Owl City
tweeted the link to the song following tweets mourning the tragic death of singer Christina Grimmie. By way of explanation, the artist said simply "I recorded one of my favorite songs ever written." You can stream the song below.
"Untitled Hymn" is a song originally released on Chris Rice's 2003 album
Run the Earth, Watch the Sky. Owl City is the second unexpected artist to pick up the song this year, as
Michael W. Smith included it on his
second volume of Hymns for Cracker Barrel in January.
Aside from his shimmering electronic pop masterpieces, Owl City's Adam Young has also developed a habit for releasing very personal, stripped back hymns. Last month he released a version of "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing," also available on
his soundcloud. Past versions of songs like "In Christ Alone" and "How Deep the Father's Love For Us" have amassed millions of streams online.
