Pop singer-songwriter Jamie-Grace is still in shock after she was brought onstage to sing with one of the biggest names in music today, Adele.
The "God Girl" singer is a big fan of the British powerhouse vocalist, and found herself with her sister and brother-in-law at the Aug. 9 show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles as part of a belated 24th birthday celebration. Although she attended completely anonymously as a fan, her instincts and two-rows-back floor seats came in handy.
"When she would look at me, I said, 'We should sing a song together!'" Jamie-Grace told NewReleaseToday. "Not in an annoying or badgering way or anything... I'm my mother's child; she would've done the same thing, and taught me that 'you have not because you ask not.' So I asked."
She said Adele eventually heard her, and in the middle of the show asked, "You want to sing with me? Come on!"
"I thought she was joking, because she sort of turned around and walked away, but then she said, 'Come on!' again," Jamie-Grace said. "I was so shocked. My jaw dropped; my hands were waving in the air. I was freaking out."
Still in shock, she said she doesn't quite remember what Adele said to her once she made it onstage, other than asking her about her name and where she's from. Then she belted out an a cappella rendition of Adele's song, "Remedy"--a song she and her sister, Morgan Harper Nichols, recorded together and shared on YouTube with their band Harper Still.
"'Remedy'... reminds me of my mom, a song I've dedicated to her in my heart," Jamie-Grace said. Her mother, Mona Harper, cannot travel due to health conditions, and her absence was felt. "She would've been there; she wanted to be there. So I was excited to dedicate that to my mom."
The moment wasn't without a little awkwardness caused by the weight of the moment, as Jamie-Grace said she "forgot all the words" before Adele helped her out by singing with her. Visibly wowed by what she had heard, Adele wouldn't let her fellow GRAMMY nominee hand her back the microphone, asking the "Hold Me" singer to "sing whatever you want."
Jamie-Grace then did a soulful rendition of "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You," a song she says is one of her parents' all-time favorites.
"I just sang on stage with Adele. I CANNOT," Jamie-Grace posted on social media. "Y'all. She said she loved my voice. How?"
The Staples Center tweet said Jamie-Grace "wowed the crowd," and indeed, fan reaction was overwhelmingly positive from the L.A. audience. Many of them took to the Twitterverse to voice their admiration for "Jamie-Grace from Georgia," and to ask the question many Christian music fans already know: "Who is she?"
One Twitter user said, after looking up Jamie-Grace, "Wait, she's a Grammy nom? Wow!"
All the buzz about the special onstage moment caught the attention of nationally syndicated entertainment program Inside Edition, who brought Jamie-Grace in for an interview Wednesday morning--an interview that will air Wednesday evening. (Check local listings here.)
