Fans of Disciple and the defunct High Flight Society pay attention: Jason Wilkes is recording a special side project, and is looking for fan support to help fund it.
The project, appropriately titled WILKES, is taking the former High Flight Frontman and current Disciple bassist into new musical territory. Wilkes describes the new tunes as being somewhat of a pop/rock worship sound.
“It’s… Foo Fighters meets Jimmy Eat World meets The Killers meets Leeland,” Wilkes said in a video he posted on crowd funding site
Kickstarter. “It’s an explosion of weirdness.”
Wilkes seeks $9,000 in a campaign that he said is essentially a preorder purchase, with some special perks for more substantial givers. All of the funds, he says, will go toward tracking, mixing and mastering the record, with any funds over the goal amount going toward promotion and distribution.
Joining Wilkes on his side project are guitarist Shane Cole (who has worked with High Flight Society on their recorded projects) and drummer Ike Thurston (a youth and young adults pastor), whose “drumming flavor will absolutely make this record something special!” Wilkes said. Both are based out of Atlanta.
