The wait is over, Flyleaf fans: The first official single from the band’s first full-length album of the Kristen May era is here.
The band this week released first single “Set Me On Fire,” from the forthcoming
Between the Stars project, due out Sept. 16 through the band’s new label home, Loud & Proud Records. The single will be served to radio July 7.
Musically, the song is aggressive in both instrumentals and vocals, with May showcasing both her powerhouse range and her occasional growl. Lyrically, the song reads like a prayer from someone dealing with fear.
The pre-chorus and chorus sings:
Now I feel the fear rising up
Climbing up, taking over my body
And I feel my pulse starting up
Begging me again
To open my eyes, I'm reaching for you
Set me on fire, set me on fire
I'm burning this time, I'm waiting for you
Set me on fire, set me on fire

With the departure of founding lead vocalist Lacey Sturm two years ago, Flyleaf was a band without a singer. And similarly, May found herself a singer without a band, as the much-acclaimed indie pop/rock group she founded, Vedera, shut their doors.
May and Flyleaf found each other, and outside of a barrage of Internet comments from a vocal minority, the partnership has been a fairly seamless one. But in that time, May has been singing someone else's songs.
Now, after the
Who We Are EP gave fans a hint of what the new May-fronted Flyleaf sounds like, the band is gearing up for Between the Stars with new songs that, at last, reflect May’s talents, experiences and unique style.
Between the Stars was recorded this spring in Los Angeles with producer Don Gilmore, who has worked for Pearl Jam, Linkin Park, Bullet For My Valentine, and Avril Lavigne, among others.
The album was the result of a successful PledgeMusic crowd funding campaign. The band looks to tour in early fall to support the release of the new album.
