It's been nearly two years since singer-songwriter Mat Kearney wrote his empassioned plea to keep former University of Oregon football coach Chip Kelly from bolting to the NFL.
Although Kelly did indeed leave the Ducks for the Philadelphia Eagles, the Ducks have remained college football powerhouses, and now the Young Love singer-songwriter is back with a new anthem for his favorite team.
The new song, "Coming Home (Oregon)" debuted today on the official YouTube page for the University of Oregon's athletic teams. Featuring classic and contemporary footage from famous Ducks games and the Eugene area, Kearney sings a driving folk anthem that would find a home next to Avicii and Aloe Blacc's "Wake Me Up."
Part ode to his home state and rallying cry to the current No. 3 college football team in the land, Kearney sings, "I'm coming home to the place that I remember, back to the land of my first love / Would you spread wide your arms for this wayward son? / I left my heart in Oregon."
In reference to the Ducks, he sings, "The Northwest air brings the fast boys to town / Be like fire on the Cascades when our feet touch the ground."
