Former frontman of Sanctus Real Matt Hammitt touched the hearts of both Christian and mainstream scenes with the story of his son Bowen, who was born with a hole in his heart and has inspired many with his journey in the nine years since.
As Bowen prepares for his third open heart surgury on July 31, he also takes a step toward fulfilling another dream. Following in his father's footsteps, Bowen has taken an interest in creating music. With another major impending surgury, Bowen enlisted his father's help to write and record music of his own. The result is 2 emotional singles, "Safe Right Here" and "Whole Heart." While Bowen offers vocal support to his father's familiar tender vocals in to the almost lullaby-like "Whole Heart" that would've fit well on Hammitt's Every Falling Tear album, he takes the lead on "Safe Right Here." Thematically, both songs clearly point to the health challenges Bowen has already overcome and the challenges he has yet to face.
Hammitt debuted both songs early on the family's journal website,
bowensheart.com, ahead of a release to the general public on July 1. You can support the Hammitts through this project at bowensheart.com and help contribute both to future releases from Bowen as well as mounting medical bills.
