“This is a song about being different, going against the grain and against the flow of the world, about God calling us to stand out," shares band member Lane Terzieff. "We have opportunities to do that every day with how we love people and the joy they see in us."
'Upstream' was written over the course of a year and on 3 different continents," continues Terzieff. "It started at the beginning of 2020 when we wrote the lyrics over Zoom with Nick Schwarz who's worked on co-writes with Cain and Unspoken. He was at home in the US and we were on a mission in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. After working on the production over the next year we found producer Matias Ruiz from Argentina online and fell in love with his remixes. We reached out on Instagram and he was on board to take 'Upstream' in a whole different direction, adding guitars, bass, and adding a sampling of his own voice on the drop, just to name a few. We love how it turned out!"
