In an open letter published Friday on Rapzilla, STRT TRBL singer SPZRKT (pronounced "spazzy rocket") says he's "breaking up" with Christian hip-hop. Read the full letter here.
SPZRKT, also known as Xavier Adams, thanked the community of Christian hip-hop for embracing him and introducing him to an audience he otherwise never would've had, both as part of Movement of Truth (starting in 2009), or since 2012 when he began his solo career.
"I share your belief, but I do not belong to you," he wrote in the letter. "I share your heart for Jesus, but I am not YOUR artist, I am AN artist."
He further clarified that as an artist, he's available to everyone, and said there are places he'd like his message to where it currently is not. He said that while his content "will expand," the heart of it will not change.
"If it sounds like I'm breaking up with CHH, I am," he clarified. "Musically, it's time for me to be 'single' and free to choose where I want to take this content. To any event and any venue, coffee shop, church, club or festival."
