In an exclusive interview with Billboard, John Cooper of Skillet announced that the band has left Atlantic Records after 20 years. Through their Hear It Loud imprint, Skillet will be releasing their new single "Unpopular" this Friday, August 9, ahead of their upcoming album Revolution on November 1.
John and Korey Cooper, alongside Skillet's manager Zach Kelm, formed a record imprint through Atlantic Records called Hear It Loud ten years ago according to Billboard. This imprint is morphing into a full-service label, handling Skillet's marketing and promotion.
"One of the things about being independent is being able to make quick decisions," John said to Billboard. "There's not this chain of people that need to weigh in on it. The system takes a really long time. Instead, I wrote a song and we recorded it eight days later. That is a huge benefit. With the change in pace of technology and of the industry, that was important to me to be able to make quick decisions."
Skillet's ten-track album, Revolution, will be released on November 1. The album includes new songs like "All That Matters," a song addressing fractured political times, "Revolution," which centers on the need for a revolution of love, and "Happy Wedding Day (Alex's Song)," a personal track written for his daughter.
