Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox are joining forces to bring the faith community a team-up of epic proportions.
The people behind two of the biggest Bible-based blockbusters of recent history--Darren Aronofsky's Noah and Ridley Scott's Exodus: Gods and Kings--have announced that principle filming has begun for a crossover film featuring characters from both films.
The Noah/Exodus crossover, tentatively titled Noah Verses Moses: Flood of Blood, features a screenplay by Robert Zemeckis that brings the generations-apart Pentateuch heroes together after a Exodus-era revenge plot by Egyptian mystics opens up a time portal in ancient Palestine. The pair reportedly battle each other initially, before turning their sights on the Egyptians, giants, and even ancient aliens.
"It's going to be the biggest Bible epic yet," Zemeckis said in a statement. When asked where in the Bible this story was located, Zemeckis picked up his cell phone and started talking. It's uncertain if the phone actually was ringing before he picked it up.
Variety has reported that Russell Crowe and Christian Bale have signed on to reprise their roles as Noah and Moses, respectively. Bale, who played Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy, said he's excited to be part of "the Bible's version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
Sure enough, producers are eyeing an even larger universe, as they consider future films that would feature Jonah and Balaam's Donkey.
"Superheroes are fictitious," Bale continued. "Bible heroes... now those are real. And so if fictitious heroes can team up, why can't Bible heroes team up? There's no better way to honor these real heroes than by making up the best stories for them."
