TobyMac continues to impress with his style and lyrics, add in a couple of the big names in the christian world and you have another Great Album from TobyMac.
It starts with "Tonight" which is one of the greatest combinations between Toby and John Cooper of Skillet. Followed by tradional TobyMac style with "Get Back Up" to the crazy worship track "Funky Jesus Music". Then, everything slows down with the inspiring "City on Our Knees". "Showstopper" is another TobyMac song that will be a def concert jam! Then, the album slows down with with next two songs "Changed Forever" and "Hold On". Tru makes a comeback with a silly song but it has a great beat. Finally, the album goes into a completely different area with "Hey Devil", which is a 1980 styled rock sound; which follows with another great combination with Matthew Thiessen of Relient K for "Wondin". The album closes with a nice slow ballad featuring Isreal for a great ending to an already great album.
PS-keep listening after the last song for a short little treat.
Top 2 Album of 2009! (Only behind that of Red) | Posted February-26-2010
Can the combination of Aaron Gillespie and Aaron Sprinkle do anything wrong? After, "Monster, Monster" I dont think so. The only reason this reason gets the number two spot of best albums for 2010 is because I like their sound better.
However, this album starts with "Monster, Monster" which is typically Almost we have come to know and love, then followed by "Lonely Wheel" which contines that trend. But it is "The Almost" ability to reach across and tap into so many different markets that is amazing. For the worship songs, try "Hands", for country/folk try "Hand Grenade", to follow up where "Dirty and Left Out" and "Amazing, Because It Is" try "Monster" which is a stripped down acoustic song that closes the album perfectly. For those who prefer love songs or songs that you turn up, roll down the windows on a spring/summer day try "Summer Summer" or "West" (if you have the bonus song copy from Best Buy). No matter the mood, just put "The Almost" in and it will give a little bit of everything and have you singing along in no time.
2010 Dark Horse | Posted February-26-2010
I love Aaron Sprinkle and will buy just about any album that he puts his name on in the production area. This lead to my looking into his band "Fair". I had their first CD in my collection since it came out but only liked it for a couple singles. Well, "Disappearing World" has changed that prespective. I brought the album hearing the few singles on the internet and since have not taken it out of my CD player. The album starts with "Disappearing World", which is easily one of the top three songs on the album. The other two standout tracks are "Walking In My Sleep" and "The Worst of Your Wear (featuring Aaron Marsh of Copeland)". However, dont write this album off, just listening to those three tracks, download or buy the entire album and you maybe like me and found the true "Sleeper/Dark Horse" of 2010!
Album of the Year 2009!!! | Posted February-25-2010
Red has made the album of the year for 2009! It took three years to get it here, but well worth the wait. The album starts off strong with tradional "Red" rock of singing with occassional screams and string arrangements to make it perfect. Then not only do they team up with "Breaking Benjamin's frontman to write "Shadows", the very next song they cover Duran Duran's "Ordinary World" and make both sound like "Red". Just make sure you get the Deluexe Edition because of the best songs is a bonus song called "Forever". Three more years til the next ablum is fine with me as long as the quality stays as strong as it is right now.
Top 3 Album for 2009!!! | Posted February-25-2010
This album is incredible! I have always liked "Emery" but this album made me love them. The album starts with normal Emery sound with "Cutthroat Collaspe" and follows that right into "Curbside Goodbye". Both tracks mix the screaming and singing perfectly. The third track is where the album really takes off and leads up to the best track on the album, the title track, "In The Shallow Seas We Sail", which has a guest vocal with producer Aaron Sprinkle. The album flows from one song to the next without missing a beat and is best if can be listened to in one setting but offers enough diversity with each song could that each can stand by itself if needed. The album finally ends on "Dear Death Par 1 and 2" which is a great closer and will leave singing it all day long. The lyrically contect with prefectly placed insturments and amazing production make this one album to not be missed for 2009!
And if you are like me, you will go back and listen to your old Emery albums and see what you missed out on or go out and buy the old albums to catch up.
