Something To Stay..and talk about | Posted December-05-2009
I do have something to say about this album and it follows:
This CD is very good. Not outstanding, but good enough for me to want to write a review for it. The title track is the best track in my opinion because it relates so well to his story of not being able to talk and also ties in the fact that whether we can talk or not we are all included in God's mission and you are important in that mission. It makes me wonder if I was to disappear today, what would people say about me? Would they have seen Jesus? If you can breathe (most of you reading will be doing so) you are included and important and can relate to this song. 'The Motions' is one of those songs that pretty much any Christian can relate to and if you can't then you are probably dead or perfect and again...probably not the case here. 'You are Everything' is nothing we've never heard before but it is fun to sing along with. 'The Center' is a great prayer to consistently pray so we don't stray down our own path. And you obviously don't want something to stray (sorry couldn't resist). Other song highlights include 'Safe and Sound' the tribute to his daughter, 'A Friend in the World' because it references tobymac from his 'Free at Last' years which is just classical, and 'Stop the World' is a great way to end the album as it reminds us to stop in our busy lives and listen for the voice of God as he may have something to say (again couldn't resist).
Overall the album is solid and probably his best album and if you get the 2CD set with the DVD, the documentary is fun to watch as well. Bottom line is if you get the CD you will either have something to play in your car or something to weigh down your papers.

This CD is great because it is so different from so many other Christian albums. That's really why I like it so much. Derek is not afraid to speak his mind even if means not having a radio-friendly hit single. Derek intentionally picked every word on this album for a reason that he felt needed to be said to someone somewhere. If you get the CD you got to have the version with 'What Matters More' because the song is just purely brilliant. Any artist that can make me think outside the box is worth what you give up to get it.

X Christmas Rocks | Posted December-19-2008
I love the X series and it rocks! TFK gets things started by rocking all the ornaments off the tree with 'Jingle Bell Rock' which has to be a favorite just because there aren't many Christmas songs that use that heavy of guitar. 'Gloria' rocks but is really just about a girl- the Gloria chorus at the end is pretty lame. 'Christmas Shoes' is indeed a lovely addition and is way better than the Newsong version. That's right I said it, it's better! Next is Jars of Clay which is enjoyable but not very rocking, that is followed up by the one track that freaks out everybody who listening to the CD with me in my car. I love 'This time of Year' because it's not your typical Christmas song. August Burns Red's version of 'Carol of the bells' is great and I'm super glad they didn't scream anything because that would have probably ruined the song. KJ-52's song is one of my favorites even though nobody else seems to like it. How can you not bob your head to that crazy beat? Capital Lights knocks the whole CD out of the park with their song 'His favorite Christmas story' which is by far the best song on the CD because it has such a touching story tied with a simple melody and solid chord progression. The last two songs are nothing special but they are a fine ending to a great Xmas CD. My only questions are where was Stellar Kart's and Eleventyseven's Christmas songs? No relient K either? I also have to admit that it is sort of lame to include "evergreen" because they're just trying to capitalize on Switchfoot's success in the mainstream and that song is like 10 years old. Whatever. Overall great Xmas songs that you won't find on most radio stations!
