A melodious rocking message | Posted December-07-2008
'Come Undone', this disc often ends up in my cd-player, rocking and jumping on the melodious sounds. The sound of the voice of David Leonard perfectly fits the music and keeps you awake (positive!). The messages of the songs are real: they are clear Christian ("Give Me Amazing Grace", "One More Day", "Different") and also taken from daily life ("Send Her An Angel", "Ready To Find Love").

Somehow when I feel stressed or irritated, this records always lifts me up and makes me forget my troubles and remembers me of who I am in Christ: alive because of His grace, totally changed (different) because of His sacrifice and meant to care for the people around me.

Worship from the heart | Posted September-13-2008
An amazing record from Hillsong United. I played it several times in my car driving to and from an important job interview. I felt the need to hear this music, because the decision I had to take (take the job or not) and the way I had to present myself was very important. It was the decision to switch to a job in the kingdom of the Lord.

The lyrics, the melodies... They touched me. They reached my heart and by reaching my heart they made me able to reach to the Lords heart. To worship Him from the heart and to surrender. 'Surrender' was the most important word in that period of my life.

This record contains songs to jump around and to sit in the little corner of your room, but both with the same purpose: worship the Almighty One.

Praise God.

Amazing talent | Posted February-25-2008
Hearing the songs 'Shadowfeet' and 'Albertine' I was amazed by the beautiful voice of Brooke Fraser. Knowing she sings in the band Hillsong United I knew: I must get to know her own music.

On her website and myspace you can listen to the songs mentioned and also to 'Deciphering Me' and some songs of her debut album. I did that and decided to buy her album.

It was quite difficult to get it because it is (was?) only available in New Zealand/Australia. I was lucky being able to order it on a Dutch website (Bol.com).

About the album now: I really like her voice and the songs. Almost every song has a kind of climax where it works to, especially 'Albertine' and 'C.S. Lewis Song'.
You can hear Brooke's passion for music, for people and for God in her songs. As well in her voice as in the lyrics. The same goes for the musicians: you can hear their passion in the music they make.

This album is great when you want to wake up slowly or being tired after a day hard work.

Summarizing: this is a relaxed album! Great lyrics, great voice, great musicians!

Apart from all this: her story behind the title of the album and the title song of the album is great!

Party album | Posted February-22-2008
This album is the ultimate party album! After a concert of the Newsboys I bought the album and I'm still jumping around when I put it in my cd player.

Before I bought the album I listened to it in a book/cd-shop and... I wasn't that enthousiastic. I don't know why. Maybe I wasn't in the mood for this kind of 'happy music'.

The message of the lyrics is great. Especially 'Go', about go and tell the world about Jesus. Not only through words but also through deeds: "Everybody needs somebody to rely on / Everybody needs somebody's shoulder to cry on / I wanna send you there to assist".

'In Wonder' and 'I Am Free' are the worship songs of this album. The piano in the intro of 'Secret Kingdom' sounds a bit like the intro of 'Feel' of Robbie Williams to me.

There are also some songs on the album which probably will not be released as singles and maybe sound a bit different than the other (they are a bit slower): 'Let It All Come Out' and 'The Letter'. But that just makes the album more complete.

Creative? No | Posted January-23-2008
I would suggest this album to the Leeland-fans. It's a good album -again- and comparable to their previous album: it contains cool rock songs and some more 'slow' songs like 'Tears Of The Saints'.

At the same time that's my big remark: it's more of the same, standard and not very creative. They can do many more and be more creative than this!! But why didn't they do that?
I won't buy this album. Hopefully their third album will be... different but cool.

Touching worship songs | Posted December-18-2007
It surprises me that not many people know the music of Dave Lubben. At least the people I know.

Searching the internet for nice Christian music, somehow Dave Lubben came across. His song "Who You Are" touched me and made me curious about this man. Did he write more songs and how will they sound?

"A Place Called Surrender" is the album of Dave Lubben which I bought, just after hearing some songs and reading some lyrics. It's even for sale in a Dutch gospel webshop! How awesome!

"A Place Called Surrender" is filled with worship songs coming from the heart. And that's why they touch the heart. The songs are about different subjects concerning faith. About wanting to get to know the Lord ("Who You Are", "Speak To Me"), about worshipping and praising God ("Lord Most High", "King Of Nations", "You Reign") and about surrendering to Him ("Surrender", "Lay It Down").

Even before you put the cd in your stereo, your eyes will be focused on the story inside the case. Dave tells about his friend being fatally sick and despite of that he came to a concert of Dave (which is the live recording of this album). It made it very special and emotional for them and you can hear that listening to the album.

Some remarks about the album.
The first one: the repetition in the lyrics. When you've heard the first or first two verses of the song you know you won't hear new lyrics. They will be repeated all the way. That doesn't have to be negative: many worship songs got that. But on this album it sticks out for me.
The second remark is the comparable music and melody of two songs. Accidentally I have those two songs on my mp3-player. Because on the screen it displays the artist, the album title and at last the song title, I cannot see the title of the song before it plays for about 30 seconds. In the beginning I thought I accidentally had put one song twice on the mp3-player, because the intro of both songs are almost the same (the melody as well as the tempo). So buy the album, listen to "You Are The One" and "Lay It Down" and you'll find out.

Visiting Dave's website for more information and music won't help you. I also tried and there's only a picture of him(?) with his guitar and a link to his email address. Another search on the internet also doesn't show he produced more albums after "A Place Called Surrender", except "Surrender", an enhanced version of "A Place Called Surrender".

God has shown Dave Lubben which way to go in his life and probably that way doesn't mean that he will be writing a new album soon, despite I hope so.

Now you know why this album deserves my first review!
