A Great read! | Posted November-20-2008
I picked this book up after reading the review of it here on NRT. I really like the authors style of writing. His characters are definitely interesting, especially Nick Polchak. I am a fan of C.S.I., most especially the original Las Vegas C.S.I. & Gil Grissom. He & Nick Polchak are very similar. I think the character Gil Grissom is actuall based on Nick Polchak.
This book puts you right in the hot soup of post-Katrina New Orleans and gives a flavorful taste of what that may have been like for the survivors & the rescue workers. It keeps you turning the pages wanting to see what's next! Being a single father I was especially drawn into the interaction between Nick & his "local guide".

I am a music fan and like a wide variety of styles of music both Christian & secular too. I have a big problem with most mainstream secular Rap & Hip Hop because the lyrics are so full of so many negative things. This guy Lecrae is amazing! Every song on this album is great & he packs every track with solid scriptural influence. The quality of the music here is outstanding, the beats are fresh and Lecrae's skill with words is magnificent! Go buy this album, you won't regret it!
Pretty Satisfying! | Posted August-20-2008
This is indeed pretty satisfying. I have been listening to the free weeklong preview (great thing that by the way!!) while working & I am liking this a lot. It's really got a good old rock feel to it, similar in some ways to the Black Crows or even Tesla. Very well played, tight arrangements, good grooves & strong vocals with a bit of a gritty feel occasionally. I have never heard a Christian band play this way & it is refreshing to me. This is the type of rock I grew up with! So far so good. I am looking forward to buying this one & seeing how it does on repeat!
I LOVE this Album! | Posted August-18-2008
This album is great! I like it so much that I was really excited when I saw a new album "When Angels & Serpents Dance" released. I didn't like that one as much though. In fact it was such a let down for me that I traded it in for credit at my local used record store.
But this one I can listen to this one over and over again & not get tired of it. I like the groove of each track & the arrangement flows pretty well from one track to the next. I especially love the first track "Roots In Stereo". There's a line in there that I can really relate to at the moment. "Runnin' up a mountain, chains tied to my feet" That's just the way I feel!
The first track I heard off this album was "Goodbye for Now" & I admit I didn't think much of it at first. But it stuck in my mind & grew on me. It's a good track for relaxing & reflecting.
"Mistakes & Glories" is a little rough for this album. I do like it but it feels like they tried a little too hard to be hard on that track. But overall for me this is the best P.O.D. album.
