What You Need To Know

The latest project from the GRAMMY® and multi-GMA Dove Awards® nominated southern rocker and songwriter features five songs. The title track is joined by "Revival," "Let's Go Down," "All Joy No Stress" (co-written by Matthew West), and "Alright" featuring country star Jimmie Allen, who also co-wrote the tune with Walker. These new songs encourage listeners to fill their hearts with faith instead of fear and to always look for the positive in all situations.

What it Sounds Like

Songwriters that worked on this project include Rhett Walker, Bryan Fowler, Matthew West, Jimmie Allen, Micah Kuiper, and Jeff Pardo. They did a fantastic job penning catchy, anthemic songs to sing on the hard days when you need a ray of sunshine, as well as on the days when it feels like life couldn't get better. The beats, country sound, well-crafted verses, and home-grown feel make this sure to please fans of country, gospel, and CCM alike.

Spiritual Highlights

Rhett Walker's songs remind me that there's really nothing like a good ol' gospel song. Worry, stress, and where we've been are the last things we need to focus on. As he says in his song, "Alright" (feat. Jimmie Allen), "It doesn't matter where you've been, Just matters where you're going. There are blessings up ahead." Isn't that what we all need to hear right now?

The rest of the focus of this album is on personal revival, remembering that God is in control, and letting our knowledge of the Good News (Gospel) flow out of us. In "Gospel Song," I love how Rhett sings, "Let me hear a heart set free, Holy Bible to a melody." In "Let's Go Down," the very first verse starts out referencing the story of the woman drinking from a well that would leave her spiritually dry; "how 'we all start broken / Drinking from the well that leaves us dry / How do we survive?"

"Revival" is another personal favorite of mine. There's a lyric that speaks to the fact that if we want the world around us to change, WE need to change first. "But if I want this world around to change / I can't stay the same, something has to break."

Best Song

They are all really great, but "Gospel Song" takes the cake as the best song on this EP. It's catchy, truthful, and makes you want to drop what you're doing and dance–and maybe do some dramatic lip-sync-ing, too.

Final Word

If you love CCM with a country flair and homegrown feel to it, definitely check out Rhett Walker's new EP, 'Gospel Song'.
