Beautiful Lullaby Album--"Love It!" (corrected review) | Posted October-05-2007
I've noticed that some of the reviews express disappointment in Plumb's newest album. Perhaps those who were disappointed did not realize that BLINK is a "lullaby" album, not a traditional (if one can use that word with Plumb) rock/pop offering.

However, in being a lullaby album, it is not "stereotypical," according to Plumb. In her own words, "[...]its lyrics are inspired by children...however the production is simply the mellow side of Plumb[....]for those who know my music, it's like a whole CD of songs like 'Phobic' or 'Go' or 'Willow Tree' or 'Cut' etc...very powerful and very sweet and very programmed...I love it. Love it!" --Plumb's 2/28/07 myspace.com blog

Personally, I think it's beautifully crafted, both musically and lyrically. True to her creative insight, Plumb has produced another poignant collection, this time centered around the theme of motherhood. The songs are relatable to a wider audience regardless of whether the listener is a parent or not. (And I am not.)

The covers of the two hymns on the album ("God Will Take Care of You" and "Children of the Heavenly Father") are gentle reminders of God's love for His children, in keeping with the album's theme. The latter hymn's use of strings is particularly beautiful.

As for the new songs, "In My Arms" is the one I listen to most; it's the song that captivated me before I heard the rest of the album and stimulated my interest in Plumb's inspirations concerning young motherhood. Visually powerful and movingly sung, the lyrics of this song are some of my favorite yet from Plumb:
"Storybooks full of fairy tales, of kings and queens and the bluest skies. My heart is torn just in knowing you'll someday see the truth from lies...
[Chorus]
When the clouds will rage, and storms will race in, but you will be safe in my arms. Rains will pour down, waves will crash around, but you will be safe in my arms.
[Bridge]
Castles they might crumble, dreams may not come true, but you are never all alone, 'cause I will always, always love you."

Another touching song is "Me." Plumb poetically mixes the dailyness of raising children with the joy of the future in lines such as "I wash your face to make room for all the kisses of tomorrow." She closes the song with "when you need to feel safe, when you need a kiss, oh, don't be afraid, 'cause what you'll have is me," a tender affirmation of a mother's self-sacrificing love, as well as another reflection of God's all-encompassing care. "Solomon's Song" is a final highlight, a soothingly melodic end to the album.

Overall, this is a rich collection of songs, sweetly carried by Plumb's expressive voice, peaceful melodies, and intimate lyrics. A must-have that portrays love through a mother's eyes and offers a deeper appreciation of the love that God expresses to His children.

(My apologies that this review was posted twice. This is the correct version since the first one did not show my username.)
