Kirk's Done It Again! | Posted April-05-2011
So I'm in love with the latest offering from gospel's favorite "nephew", Kirk Franklin. From the musically subtle but lyrically poignant opening track ("Hello Fear", best breakup song I've ever heard!) to the last note I found myself on a journey of contemplation, celebration, introspection and, finally, FREEDOM!
My pick hits would have to be "Before I Die" (a markedly DC go-go feel cranked all the way up!), "The Altar" (Sunday morning at its best), "Give Me That", "Everyone Hurts" and last, but far from least, "Something About The Name Jesus Part 2". I had to mention "Something About The Name..." last so that I could use the next few sentences to gush over how much I adore every singer featured on the track. I'm Fan #1 when it comes to John P. Keem, I grew up on the Winans so having Bishop Marvin Winans was an immediate sell for me, I think Isaac Carree's vocal cords are made of gold and Rance Allen just tickles me with his old school grunts & screams, lol!
I've always been a fan of Kirk's but I must say that the lyrical content on this album seems significantly stronger on this album than those in the past. Two thumbs up for "Hello Fear", I encourage all to purchase & support! You won't be disappointed!
Awesome Worship! | Posted March-23-2011
Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church, pastored by the esteemed Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr. and his wife Co-Pastor Susie C. Owens, has long held a reputation as a world-class ministry in every aspect and this project simply substantiates that claim. The intense praise and impassioned worship that are a normal part of the Sunday morning worship experience at Calvary has been captured in such a way that any casual listener is quickly converted into an active participant; each song presenting one the opportunity to enter into a different level of worship.
With the support of veteran super-producer, Steven Ford (T.D. Jakes, Fred Hammond, Richard Smallwood, Michael W. Smith, Tye Tribbett, etc.), "Greater Mount Calvary Live" paints a picture of the versatility of this dynamic music ministry. There's no shortage of hard-driving church as exemplified by Calvary's arrangement of the late Bishop Kenneth H. Moales, Sr's now-famous "War Cry" led by Co-Pastor Susie Owens along with the more traditional, down home feel of "He Could Have Let Me Drown". From the radio-friendly "He's Worthy" to the transcendental "We Worship Your Name", there's a little something for everybody!
Paramount to all of the aforementioned commendations, the anointing is undeniably present in all 17 tracks and this is one project that is sure to be enjoyed by all. Do yourself a favor and purchase a copy of "Greater Mount Calvary Live: As Told By The Music Ministry"...and what a story they have to tell!
