Great choice in a new producer, in additional vocalists (Mac and Chris Daughtry sound great together), and in guest musicians (Robert Randolph).
I have been - as many of you have - so excited about hearing this cd. As a huge Third Day fan I love these guys and was hoping it would be something that would be back to "their sound" but offer something new at the same time... I was NOT disappointed.
I honestly think that Mac sounds better than ever. When I first heard "Call my Name" as the first single released my immediate thought was - he's hitting notes he hasn't in the past, stretching himself more. His vocals on this project really are stellar.
My second thought was that musically speaking the sound is more meaty.
The other songs did not change that observation either.
I love that there is everything from what can be a love song to God or a love song to a spouse, to a song that is a challenge to those around us (and ourselves), and then one ("This is Who I Am")that is simply an anthem we should all be singing to the world that as Christians we are just like them in so many ways - an honest picture of what we are. The difference? It plainly shares our hope in a Savior that makes the difference in us.
I don't want to ruin your perspective of it by reviewing every single song... just buy it, enjoy it, and then tell everyone you now to buy it!
Within the 13 songs on this cd there truly is a Revelation - in relating to what we are, who we are, and who we can be.

This Could Be Our Day
Speaks to how our every action is so important, makes you think about the fact that even a relationship ending could be the beginning of the seeds we planted while in it.
All That Matters
A great anthem to nonconformity that I love (and I can already picture the audience reaction to this one in concert!)
Hope Now
Focuses on the fact that there's a freedom in letting go because it's all Him, we can't control it anyhow! The song itself is freeing!
Just Takes One
What if we actually made the attempt to actually touch someone without thinking about it - if we just spoke up, just served, just loved, and didn't leave them not knowing they had been around a follower of Christ? An awesome challenge...
Run
Do not be trapped by your past... in fact flee from it as fast as you can and don't look back, don't slow down because it will only hold you back. When you run from the past you have no choice but to run straight into your future and His arms
What Do I Know of Holy
A beautiful song that begs the question of how well do we understand who He is, what He is, and do we even understand how Holy our God is? He "that spoke me into motion"... awesome and challenging...
one other song is kind bubble gum - but we expect this to pull in the tweener females, makes sense.

I guess I'm not totally void of realizing Jon's song writing ability of course, always great phrases, thought provoking moments in all Switchfoot has done in the past but Jon has never been stripped away like this before and I found myself surprised by his honesty and his definite struggles when one on one with his own walk, in his own place, and his own journey.
It can be hard to take in and chew on after a few particular songs in a row, since many come from a very very difficult place at least at first. I had to stop and move away for awhile then return when I had reconciled my own interpretations of what the words were giving me within my own experience.
But then that's what art should do.
I'm anxious to hear more for sure!
Want to spend an intimate time with God? | Posted January-27-2008
WOW! I have been waiting anxiously on this second release from Leeland and was NOT disappointed. Rarely has a band or artist gave me the full on experience, with both the words and the music (right from the first listen of Sound of Melodies), of bringing me to an intimate time with my Creator and my Savior like Leelend does again with Opposite Way.
Their worship is purely passionate and evident whether your hands are lifted where they are playing live, or if you're in your car with ony their cd and fighting to keep a hand on the steering wheel (I have often had to pull over because I could not).
Either way the tears of joy come and you feel washed by the personal time you just spent with the One.
Whether it's "Count Me In" with it's energetic building of guitars and vocals that become a banner you hold high, or the quiet awakening that happens within "Opposite way", you come away changed by what you have heard and energized with the truth.
Thank you Leeland for being true to the gift you've been given, not distacted by the machine, and for the muic you create that honors the One who gave it to you.
