rollercoaster ride, without the throwing up

This Beautiful Republic is a great new rock band that's fully underrated. Their album isn't thoroughly fantastic, from the first track to the last, but it does give the world something new to listen to. They somewhat break out of the generalized rock and into something more that makes a listener listen twice. Some songs on the record are stronger than others, with catchier riffs and feel. The opening track "Casting Off" is of those particular great songs and continues a streak with the dark "Going Under" and softer "Jesus to the World." It continues into "Right Now," which is pure feel-good rock music. Once onto the fifth track though, it feels a bit shaky and not so strong as the clutter of great songs in the top half of the tracks. It somewhat goes back to the catchy rock with "The Surface," but then loses it again with an attempt for a slow song on "Let's Be Honest." The last half of the album doesn't have the addicting tunes the opening tracks had. It closes with "Cloud Cover," which is an easy song to forget. It can be thrown in with the other thousand rock songs out there and be lost. For any listener willing to listen though, each song can find its way to become addicting. This album has its good and bad, but overall is quite a strong debut View All Music And Book Reviews By CheeesyFish | View CheeesyFish's Profile
