A new and refreshing sound!

Having listend to TDA since their 2012 debut EP "The Rehearsals", I was completely pumped when I first saw Evening:Morning was being released. I immediately pre-ordered it and I couldn't wait until it released. Upon releaseing earlier this week, I've taken my time to listen through it enough to know all of the songs on the album. So without further or do, lets dive into the musical journey that is "Evening:Morning"!
Evening:Morning starts with "Captured", a powerful and upbeat track that will be stuck in your head for months to come. With a powerful chorus stating "Love has come to rescue me. Your love has come to set me free, Your love, love is all I need. Your love." , It's quite a bold statement of God's love for us.
With songs like "Symphony of Grace" and "Your Name (We Shout)", Evening:Morning offers some super powerful and catchy songs. Returning on TDA's second project is "All the Poor and Powerless" (originally by All Sons & Daughters). This version of the cover song is nearly a minute and a half shorter than the recording found on "The Rehearsals", making it friendlier for Radio play. I am pleased that they decided to refine the song, but I don't think it was necessary for the song to make a return on this record (not complaining though!)
One of my favorite tracks is "Overcome", which offers one of the strongest messages with lines like "Your love is an avalanche and I'm overcome." and "You're all I need, everything I could want is found in Your love." Overcome is an excellent song for the Church and will be a new favorite for worship pastors on Sunday mornings. Showing another unique musical take, "Though the Night" opens up with an 80's video arcade style synth. While the song might have a electronic feel, you still get a feeling of worship and praise. The track "Glow" offers a great group vocal that I'm sure will be a super fun song at live shows! "Break Every Chain" has a simple yet true message stating "There is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain.".
The next track "Believe" is another favorite off of the album. Echoing the lines of the Apostles Creed, "Believe" opens with "I believe in God the Father Almighty, the maker of Heaven and Earth. Amen". The "God of Us All" and "Always You" have been called 'filler' by some reviewers and while they don't feel as big as the rest of the album, they still have great messages and musical experiences to offer. The last track "Morning Song" is a great send-off. The all acoustic track manages to feel different from the rest of the tracks, while still maintaining that Digital Age sound.
Overall, "Evening:Morning" is a fantastic album and offers a breath of fresh air in the CCM scene. The name itself, "Evening:Morning", suggests a journey. As I said before, Evening:Morning is certainly a musical and emotional journey with "Through the Night" at the halfway point and ending with "Morning Song". A fun thing to do with youth group lock-ins or by yourself (if you're a night owl that is) would be to listen to a track an hour starting at 7pm and ending at 7am. Each hour playing the next track on the hour and reflecting on the message in the song. Just an idea!
In the end, The Digital Age does not disappoint and is a must listen for any CCM fan! View All Music And Book Reviews By JBetts97 | View JBetts97's Profile
