Finding God: Demonstrations One Through Three
"A three-part work addressing the imminence and false-finality of the human state, expressed from the longing that is greater than expression allows, that is, the longing of the soul for the origin (sustenance)."
- Zack
The Walla Recovery is a chamber-folk quartet based out of Fort Worth, Texas. They describe their sound as a mixture of Yo-Yo Ma, Nickel Creek, and Goo Goo Dolls. That's a pretty accurate way of describing the style of music they play.
Demonstrations One Through Three is an EP containing the first three songs in their catalougue. All three tracks follow the theme of there being more to life than life itself.
- Beautiful You is the most updeat track on Demonstrations. The song is about the beauty of God and the anticipation of eternal life with Him. This song really makes me think about how wonderful the promises of Heaven are, yet how mysterious it is at the same time.
- Long Road is a song about the feeling of loneliness and hopelessness that life brings sometimes. The chorus and bridge are a cry out to God to bring rest and comfort knowing that will be enough to push on.
- The final track Trains depicts a struggle between man and God. In the final few lines there is a realization of the need for God and complete surrenderence to Him. The mood of this song is set and further complimented by the sounds of ambient rain in the background. This track contains one of my favorite lyrics 'The thunder is rolling; the sky’s turning black. And you linger here like a ghost on the tracks.' It's a great conlusion to this small collection of songs.
The songs off this EP probably won't be songs you want to jam to all the time, but Demonstrations offers a mellow sound with unique and inspiring lyrics making for a unique listening experience that I believe is worth checking out.
