A New Sound

Classical-pop quintet Veritas is introducing a new sound to the contemporary Christian music scene. The five guys--Jordan, James, Jeff, Andrew and Scott--each bring much experience and training to the group. Together they produce a somewhat different yet enjoyable sound for their listeners that is put on the forefront in their recently released self-titled album. A combination of both new songs and old favorites, Veritas gives variance to the sonic landscape and leaves every type of music covered.
The album is given a powerful start by beginning with the popular worship song "Agnus Dei," which features the five-part harmony mastered by the group. Booming out with a symphony of instruments, the Rodgers and Hammerstein standard "You'll Never Walk Alone" makes an appearance in the collection of songs next to Switchfoot's hit "Dare You To Move." The MercyMe signature tune, "I Can Only Imagine" is also included here, beginning in a beautiful piano melody and building up to a strong orchestra of sounds.
Standout track "The Hand That Holds The Storm" speaks of the hard times of life and God's truths that remain through it all: "here comes the rain / but don't forget the promise He made." Bringing out their patriotic side, "American Anthology" is a well-done medley of such songs as "America The Beautiful", "God Bless America", and "Battle Hymn Of The Republic." Matt Redman's huge success "10,000 Reasons" is beautifully redone here with the strong background of instruments only adding to the power of the moment.
The album comes to a close with the John Legend classic "If You're Out There" and a moving version of "The Lord's Prayer."
Closing Thoughts:
Veritas has a lot to offer music lovers - from favorite worship songs to old classics, this album seems to have it all. Backed by smooth vocals that blend beautifully from start to finish and pitch-perfect harmonies, the group has mastered an unmistakable new sound - a sound that could very well be a breath of fresh air into the world of Christian music.
