What You Need To Know:
Travis Greene consistently releases songs that are powerful yet good for the worshipper. He has strong support in the Gospel sector along with breaking racial and denominational barriers. It is no wonder that he also travels to Africa to minister and is loved due to his authentic heart and passion for vertical music. Broken Record is his latest offering on RCA Inspiration.
What It Sounds Like:
The song choices, musical arrangements and vocal placements are on point while leading to and not taking away from the One whom this album is focused on. On his previous album, I was really feeling the chorus of the different song being sung at the tail end of “Have Your Way.” That chorus of "Great Jehovah, ruler of everything/Our defender. You are the most High King" was brought to this album via a full song, "Great Jehovah." Mid Tempo and catchy. A banjo and more fiddles and violins could be added for a remix. A duet with David Crowder would be fitting. The lead single is lyrically worshipful with a feel of Kirk Franklin collides with Travis Greene in terms of vocal arrangement. “Good & Loved” is a highlight and another song to add your time of worship and prayer. Steffany Gretzinger joins Travis to sing of the comforting feeling of being loved by God. I am so proud of Steffany for her willingness to work with artists who are not of the same race, but with the same goal of worshipping God with reckless abandon. Her passion and singing transcend what can divide our nation.
Spiritual Highlights:
This album is about worship and praise, but it is also a conduit for unity because there is much for lovers of different genres of music and those of different ethnicities to enjoy. Youth worship bands and main service worship teams can enjoy songs like “All Things New” and “No One Else.”
Best Song on the Record:
“Broken Vessels” blew me away the first ten times listened to it and I still am not tired of it. It is easily one of my favorite songs of worship. It sounds like Travis just grabbed a room full of worship leaders and lovers of God and recorded an intimate devotion service. The men sing the first verse in unison, joined by the ladies for verse two, only backed by an acoustic guitar. The song ends with Travis leading everyone while simply singing, "Jesus, Jesus/You are with us." “Respond” is a smooth track that features Travis along with three singers: Trinity Anderson, Taylor Poole and D’Nar Young and they are SANGIN!
